Jaguar hatched their master plan to produce a ground-breaking sports car along the lines of their Le Mans winning D Type as a replacement for their hugely successful, though becoming rather dated XK120-150 line in 1956. The resultant E Type finally reached the showrooms in 1961 in coupe or roadster form, initially with 3.8, though soon with a 4.2-litre engine.
The Derbyshire vendor of the 1970-manufactured E Type being auctioned here, a Series 2 coupe with 4.2-litre 6-cylinder engine, claims that the 30,250 miles indicated on the odometer when entered for this sale is the genuine total mileage since the car left the Browns Lane factory in Coventry.
Previous owner information since 1974 are included in the history file, from which it can be learned that this right-hand drive car was stored from October 1977 until July 1985. We are told that all the old MOTs are also on file as are invoices detailing work done.
The fixed head bodywork has been repainted in Signal Red, which is said to be in very good condition. The car has reportedly been well sorted with all suspension mounts and bushes replaced. Wheels, tyres, stainless steel exhaust and battery have been renewed within the last two years. Both engine and transmission are said to be good with no known faults, whilst the black interior is original. It is fantastic to drive, says the owner.
