Ebay item 4/12/15
www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-E-Type-Leather-/331528346755
Current bid US $5,100 reserve not met 9 bids 6 days left in auction. Buy it now price $45,000. 43k miles.

Sellers description:
Listed for sale by Coventry Garage LLC, is a 1969 JAGUAR XKE (E-Type) Coupe that is in absolutely wonderful condition. We are offering it for sale with the "BUY IT NOW PRICE" OF $45,000.00. This car has only 43510 miles on it from new. (VIN# 1R 26127).

This is a matching numbers car and has a very smooth shifting 4 speed manual transmission and 2 Stromberg carburetor 6 cylinder in line XK Jaguar engine. It is a dark blue exterior with brand new light gray leather seats, seat foams and seat diaphragms and new vinyl consol and arm rest. The entire cockpit has been insulated with closed cell padded aluminum foil insulation to reduce heat and sound insulate. The light blue carpets are new and not glued down so floors and insulation can be inspected. This car has 4 newer Dayton tubeless 6" wire wheels with brand new Kumho 205-70-15 tires, brand new gas tank, fuel pump and filter. This is a 2 DOOR SPORTS COUPE (not the 2+2 coupe) with a luggage area behind the front bucket seats. We have found NO RUST ON THIS CAR. The floors, doors, sills, trunk and bonnet are in great condition. We think that the floors and sills were re-done at some time and are in great condition.

The previous owner had this car for approximately 20 years and here is some of the work he performed: repainted in 2005, chrome work 2005, new rubber gaskets-windows and doors, rebuilt head, recored radiator, GM alternator, new rotors and pads, new brake lines, new clutch assembly, new cooling hoses, new stainless exhaust system, new interior wiring harness and high capacity cooling fan on radiator. The previous owner told us that in 20 years he only put about 1500 miles on this car. All receipts from previous owner go with the car.

IF YOU HAVE EVER WANTED TO OWN A BRITISH SPORTS CAR, this is the one to buy as the prices on all XKE'S keep on going up. This is a series 2 Jaguar E-Type fixed head coupe. This car runs great, starts quickly, shifts nicely and has a beautiful leather interior. The paint shines very well but has some imperfections- a few paint chips around the rear hatch, some scratches on the bulkhead, some water marks on the roof, and a few paint blend marks- none of which stand out, but they are there. The chrome wire wheels are in near perfect condition and most chrome has been re plated and looks great. The car is very presentable as it sits and a very nice "driver" condition car.

We have just changed some of the radiator hoses and the antifreeze, changed the engine oil and oil filter and have installed the new gas tank and installed a new gasoline filter and take-up tube. The car runs very well. The car leaks some fluids as all British cars do. The car needs the brakes "loosened up". The car sat for the past three years and the calipers tend to hang up- especially the rears. Our experience has been that the brake calipers loosen up and work better with driving. The entire rear end of this car was pulled out and detailed at some point- it is painted nicely and is very clean. The steering wheel is an aftermarket wooden steering wheel in nice condition. The radio housing and speakers come with the car but need installed. The rear luggage area has no luggage board runners and the rear hatch vinyl trim could be redone- we have extra gray vinyl that comes with the car. The dash cover is in nice condition; all glass is in very nice condition; the headliner is original- not sagging but never replaced. All gauges work, all lights work and the car rides very well- and excellent daily driver XKE. The engine compartment could use some detail work- carb housings shined, metal work shined, valve covers brightened - nothing major- just being honest. We have tried to describe this car as accurately as possible; all the good and bad features have been addressed in this advertisement.

If you come out to see this XKE we can put the car up on our lift for you so you can view the car from underneath. Both Gary and I (Dan) are members of the Jaguar Clubs of North America and of our local Jaguar Club of Pittsburgh. If necessary, we can give you names of local Jaguar restorers/mechanics whom you can contract with to assess this E-Type for you. If you fly into Pittsburgh, we can pick you up at the Pittsburgh International Airport. All shipping arrangements and expenses will be paid by the buyer. The car will not be shipped until all funds clear our bank.

We can offer this car at such a reasonable price because we are a very small, Pennsylvania licensed, used car dealership.

Seller Private

Auction Type Reserve

The seller of this 1969 Jaguar E-type Series 2 Fixed-Head Coupe, who believes he is the third owner, describes that he bought the car in 2014 as “a rather poor and incomplete restoration.” According to the seller, the car was taken off the road at that time and subjected to a full restoration of the interior, a refinished exterior, replacement of the wiring harness, rebuilt instruments, a refresh of the underhood components, and rebuilt front and rear suspensions. As completed, he refers to the restored E-type as a “Category 1, 95-plus point” example awaiting a new owner.

POWERTRAIN

The owner states that the engine and gearbox are original to this car and “no rebuilds were necessary due to the low original mileage (43,554).” He notes that all external seals and gaskets on the engine, gearbox, and differential were changed during the restoration to avoid future leakage. Cold starts are said to be made simply by opening the choke and providing about one-quarter throttle, starting within a few turns of the engine and settling into a smooth idle once the choke is closed. No smoke is reported on idle. The operation of the gearbox is described as “very good,” with smooth changes and no unusual noises. No modifications have been made to the powertrain, according to the seller.

EXTERIOR

Also according to the seller, the exterior was “refinished in 2018 in the original Jaguar color of Dark Blue using a high quality Omni primer with a deep coat of PPG single-stage ‘Gloss out of the gun’ paint.” No swirls, ripples, or other blemishes” are found in the finish, per the seller. No body repairs were reported as necessary before before applying the finish, although the seller notes that “minor rusting” of the front floors was repaired prior to his ownership. The high quality of the finish can be seen in the photos provided. All bright trim and lights, including the uncovered Series 2 headlights, raised bumpers, and larger lamps below the bumpers, appear as complete and the trim shows to a high level of polish. No scratches, cracks, or other imperfections are reported in the glass, or leaks of any kind with new OEM seals. All lights are said to work “perfectly.” No modifications have been made to the exterior from new.

INTERIOR

No modifications have been made to the interior either, per the seller, which has been restored in the original Light Blue leather and vinyl. The seller writes that the seats have been fitted with new leather covers and the door panels and rear trim panel are new, as are the headliner and carpets that are protected by all-weather mats. All interior trim is complete. The dashboard fascia is reported to have been redone with the original material, and no problems are reported with the instruments that were rebuilt and calibrated by Nisonger Instruments according to the seller. A classic reproduction AM/FM radio that “works well” is mounted above the gear shifter. Both the windows and door locks are manually operated. The heat works. There is no air conditioning.

CHASSIS

The monocoque body structure of the E-type, with a subframe mounting the engine and front suspension, follows the design created for the successful Jaguar D-type racing cars, with independent front and rear suspension. Disc brakes are on all four wheels, with the rear brakes mounted inboard, next to the differential, to reduce unsprung weight. The seller describes the rack-and-pinion steering as “straight, with no slack or play.” He also identifies that both the front and rear suspensions were rebuilt during the restoration four years ago, including all shocks and bushings, which were replaced with new OEM parts.

Modifications made to the undercarriage, per the seller, included vented rotors and Fosseway four-piston billet aluminum calipers for the front, a rebuilt and rebalanced drive shaft, and rear bleed screws extended to the lower edge of the rear suspension subframe. The disc brakes are described as “powerful, progressive, and with no fade.” The 15-inch chrome wire wheels “were new about 8 years ago and show no damage,” according to the seller. The wheel nuts were replaced with new knock-offs of the the earlier Jaguar style. The 205/70R15 Kumho Solus KR21 tires are described as new at the same time as the wheels, but “hardly worn, with no signs of degradation,” per the seller.

DOCUMENTATION

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Illinois title in his name. This 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Fixed Head Coupe is a beautiful example of the always-desirable E-types, benefitting from the 4.2-liter engine with the improved Jaguar four-speed manual transmission, and a more comfortable cabin that also includes upgraded safety features such as a collapsable steering column and rocker switches in place of the Series 1 toggles. The seller writes that he has seven classic cars, two of which are projects requiring ongoing attention. With the need to cut down on his collection, he is offering the E-type simply because “I don’t like to leave this car undriven for long periods.”

Lot #95865

This 1969 Jaguar XKE is a Series II coupe that was reportedly delivered new to Canada and acquired by the seller approximately eight years ago as a partially-completed refurbishment project. Subsequent work is said to have included a repaint in dark blue, as well as refreshes of the suspension, brakes, and electrical system. Power is from a 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and features include light blue leather upholstery, triple SU carburetors, four-wheel disc brakes with Fosseway Performance four-piston aluminum front calipers, ventilated rotors, an AM/FM radio, and polished knock-off wire wheels. This XKE is being offered with a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The car is said to have been repainted its current shade of dark blue following the seller’s acquisition. Exterior features include a louvered hood, dual exhaust outlets, chrome side mirrors, and exposed headlights.

Polished 15” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 205/70 Kumho Solus KR21 tires. A matching spare is found in the rear storage area. Braking is through four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears and Fosseway Performance four-piston aluminum front calipers and ventilated rotors. The seller notes that the suspension has been refreshed.

The cabin houses seats trimmed in light blue leather with color-coordinated door panels and a black dashboard. Gray carpets and black rubber mats line the floors, and details include shoulder belts, an analog clock, rocker switches for vehicle functions, and a push-button AM/FM radio.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths gauges that were reportedly rebuilt by Nisonger Instruments of Mamaroneck, New York and are comprised of a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary displays. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 44k miles, around 200 of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six has been fitted with triple SU carburetors and a 1.5-series distributor with a point-less trigger. The seller notes that the wiring harness has been replaced.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The driveshaft has reportedly been rebuilt and re-balanced, and work during previous ownership is said to have included repairs to the driver and passenger-side floors.
