Ebay item 8/13/05
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Auction ended at $22,750.00 (Reserve not met), the opening bid, no bids received.

Sellers description:
Located in Derbyshire UK, seeking a caring owner having been with the present one (a member of the Jaguar Driver's Club) since 1976 & featuring regularly in articles for "The Jaguar Driver" from 1976 to 1981. No accidents & always garaged; used for special occasions or JDC events but never during winter months. In virtually original condition - recently had a new driver's door (as a result of vandalism) & stainless steel exhaust. Also a major service (January 2005 - invoices available) also including new tyres, battery, alternator belts, thermostat, discs & callipers, etc., which was undertaken by a Jaguar restoration specialist (MDM Services of Coalville). No rot apart from 1" hole in rear bumper. Requires new headlining (original grubby), driver's carpet & (thanks to that vandal) horn button. Two earlier owners, the last of which is understood to have replaced the speedometer...the mileage shown on it is now 12,330 but is thought actually to be around 70,000. The MOT is valid until December 2005 & the Historic Vehicle Road Licence until January 2006.

This vehicle is carmine red with black leather interior. Present owner bought this vehicle in 1977 &, owing to work abroad & use of other vehicles, has done limited mileage in it - none of which has been in the winter months. It has not been involved in any accidents. The car is not immaculate, but is in very good condition - there is no body rot & the underseal is intact, but there is some stone chipping on the lower parts of the nose & body side members together with a 1" dia. rust hole in the rear bumper. Completely original except for a few mechanical items:- in 2005 it underwent an £8,000.00 overhaul which included four new brake discs with larger callipers, machining of flywheel, changing clutch & slave cylinder, track rod ends, a stainless steel exhaust, battery, modified handbrake, ball joints, thermostat & thermostat controlling electric fans - so there no overheating problems (invoices available). Shortly after, the carburettors were tuned by an ex-Jaguar Cars employee who now has his own tuning business. Oil pressure is the correct 40 p.s.i. when hot, there are no oil leaks (the garage is carpeted!!) & there is no smoke from the exhaust. Requires a new driver’s carpet & could do with a new headlining. Currently without MOT or Historic Road Fund disc (both expired June 2007).

For sale at the JPA Motor Company of Holmfirth for £77,995.Seller's description below.

A stunning low mileage1969 E Type 4.2 FHC 2+2 in Signal Red with Black leather interior. A rare classic car that was most recently sold in 2022 by a well known specialist classic car dealer. Has MoT history since 2006 to the present and comes with Jaguar Heritage certificate issued in September 2021 that backs up its originality. A real chance to own not just a piece of history but also a piece of art. This 1960s sports car is in fine running order and its condition throughout is exceptional for its age.

The interior is in great condition with no signs of wear to the leather. A period DAB radio is installed but takes nothing away from the car's classic interior design. The original wooden steering wheel is supplied with the sale of the car. In December 2021 the car underwent extensive works at an E Type specialist costing around £10,000. A detailed itemised invoice of works is available. A major service was undertaken at this time and the underside of the vehicle has been sealed and protected.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
