1969 Jaguar E-Type Series II 2+2
Original Survivor Quality Car

This Jaguar is currently owned by a discerning collector in South Florida. The E Type is an original, survivor quality car. Having covered just over 59,800 miles since new, a car of this originality is exceptionally rare today in the E-Type market. This is the proven statement, since many were looked at before and passed on before purchasing this particular car. Its originality is rare, as so many have been "restored" to greatly varying levels. Being a 2+2 E-Type, the car has a 9-inch-longer floor pan, longer doors, 2-inch-taller roof, steeper windshield and a rear folding seat, where the coupes didn't. The 2+2 was the only E-Type that had the option of an optional 3-speed Borg-Warner automatic gearbox. This gave the car a 0-60 MPH in 8.9 seconds, 100 MPH in 22.7 seconds and a top speed of roughly 136 MPH. When the current owner was purchasing this car, he didn't find it easy to get down and into and then back and out of an E-Type Coupe or even a roadster, where he can get in and out of this car much easier. This is a common issue with E-Types.

The Jag is finished in the original and sought after color combination of Carmen Red with Black Connolly Leather. The interior is completely original and very presentable, with some wear and patina in the seat leather. The smell of the Connolly Hides is still present. Also, we believe this was an early 1969 since the seat leather inserts are solid leather panels, not perforated like that of the later 1969 and onward cars. The majority of the Carmen Red lacquer paint on the car is thought to be original. Please note though, there are some superficial imperfection and minor blemishes due to age and use. The body is straight and shows no previous evidence of bodywork. Also the spot weld marks are still present in all four wheel arches (as shown in the photos). This is a strong indicator that there hasn't been any previous repair work done. All of panel gaps are perfect.

Recently, the Jaguar has just undergone a full and comprehensive service with a British Car Specialist. It has been thoroughly serviced, and prepared with a no expense spared thought process. If it was needed, it was done. The services preformed included replacing all fluids and filters. The original Zenith-Stromberg carburetors are still in place and were tuned for optimum performance. The braking system was thoroughly inspected and deemed necessary to replace 3 calipers due 2 leaking and one being frozen. As a result, all 4 were replaced as well as the rotors and pads. A complete, manifold back Bell Exhaust Stainless Steel system was also sourced from the UK and fitted to the car. The exhaust note is fantastic by the way... There has been a new correct steering wheel fitted, but the original will be supplied with the car. The drivability and handling of the car was improved with a fresh set of Vredestein tires with fresh inner tubes, the trailing arm bushings have be replaced, along with stub axle seals and the wheel seals. The overall drive quality of the car is tight and responsive, with no play or wandering. This car is equipped with the factory options of Air Conditioning and the 3 Speed Automatic Transmission. The A/C is functional and the transmission shifts smooth with no slippage. With an automatic gearbox, anyone can drive this car. Also, it becomes a much more user friendly in traffic, as E Types typically have a very heavy clutch. As part of the work completed, all of the body and window seal rubber were replaced, as the original had begun to deteriorate from age. At this time, a new correct OEM, not an aftermarket, windscreen glass was sourced and installed with the fresh seal, due to the original beginning to delaminate. When the seals were replaced, you could see that there had been no previous paint work in the jams. Were as with some cars that have had work done, the minute difference of a millimeter or two can make the new seals very difficult to fit (sometimes requiring you to shave down the seal) and they lay proud in the window opening. On this car, they went right in.

The undercarriage is clean, and corrosion free. The engine compartment is correct in all appearances, as well as being spotless. The Jag's bright work and chrome trim are bright and free of any major flaws. Inside the rear cargo area, the floor and side panels are perfect. Inside the spare tire, the well is spotless and free of any moisture or corrosion. The car's jack and the lead hammer for the wheels are present. Every time the Jag is driven, it get lots of attention. Everyone always wants a picture of with it.

While there are many "restored" examples of E-Types out there, none of those can compare with an original car. This car is ready to drive and enjoy. Communications are encouraged, should you have any questions. Please ask...

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
