This 1969 Jaguar XKE is a 2+2 coupe which is powered by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline six mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and was acquired by its current owner in October 2016 from his father, who had purchased it in 2011. A color change was carried out under previous ownership, while new red leather front seat covers were installed by the current owner. Other recent work is said to have included refurbishment of the steering rack, brake calipers, and brake booster along with replacement of the carburetor float valves in July 2019. Modifications consist of a stainless steel exhaust system and a Kenwood cassette player. This Series II XKE 2+2 is offered by the seller on behalf of its current owner with replacement rear seat upholstery, recent service records, and a clean Ohio title.

The car reportedly underwent a color change from its original Fawn to dark blue under previous ownership. The seller notes corrosion on the left rear quarter pane.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with Dunlop Signature tires that are said to have been installed within the past 1,000 miles. Additional maintenance performed under current ownership reportedly included refurbishment of the brake calipers, brake booster, and steering rack along with replacement of tie rods and ball joints.

The front seats have been reupholstered in red leather with a matching center console, while older upholstery on the door panels and rear seats is faded and cracked. Replacement leather covers for the rear seat are included in the sale. Equipment includes lap belts for the front occupants, a heater with a defroster, and an aftermarket Kenwood cassette player.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel with a Jaguar horn button frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and tachometer, while central auxiliary gauges include a clock as well as gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows just under 90k miles, with total mileage unknown.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six is equipped with dual Stromberg carburetors and was factory-rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. An aftermarket alternator has been installed, and the carburetor float valves are said to have been replaced in July 2019. The seller notes that the engine idles roughly on cold starts and a coolant leak is present near the radiator.

Engine block stamp 7R371499 matches that listed on the chassis tag. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Borg Warner BW-8 three-speed automatic transmission.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
