Sold by the Classic and Sports Car Centre near Malton in April 2021. Abbreviated seller's description below.

    www.classicandsportscar.ltd.uk/jaguar-e-type-series-ii-4.2-2+2/classic-cars-sold ...

This beautifully presented, lovely driving and excellent value E Type comes with history back to new in 1969. Previously sold by us in 2012, this 2+2 was originally supplied new by Angelo's Motor Sales in Trenton, New Jersey, we have the original passport to service book, stamped warranty card and maintenance information. In th mid 1970's the car moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and in 1989 it was exported back to the UK. We have the American Certificate of Title.

On arrival in the UK it was registered and rebuilt at a cost of £22,000. The bodyshell was stripped back to bare metal and painted Signal Red. Mechanically the engine was checked and rebuilt with new valves and guides. It was fitted with a new clutch, engine mountings, steering rack, track rod ends, subframe mountings and shock absorbers. During the 1990's it was in the York area and from 2000 to 2012 it was in Scotland. MoT certificates dating from 1989 to 2012 show it covered only 4,500 miles.

The most recent owner has covered a further 4,500 miles in the past 8 years. In 2016 it underwent an under bonnet refurbishmentat a cost of £9,000. The engine was stripped down and all items were reconditioned, replaced or repainted. The engine bay was cleaned, painted and detailed. The suspension and brakes were rebuilt and renewed. In 2019 a further £800 was spent on servicing and maintenance and in 2020 a further £12,000 on taking it to a higher standard including gearbox overhaul, with new clutch and manifold fitted.

The E Type has been much improved since last sold by us with beautiful paint finish, bright chrome and exceptional engine bay. The car is smooth, powerful, quiet and handles, steers and brakes superbly. This is an opportunity to purchase a fabulous, tight driving E Type ideal for long distance touring.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
