Ebay item 6/25/04
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $25,000.00 (Reserve not met), 1 bid, 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
Vehicle Description
1969 JAGUAR E-TYPE S2 ROADSTER (XKE)
SPOTLESS BLACK ON BLACK
TWO OWNERS FROM NEW
47,778 MILES
MY DAD WAS A LIFE LONG JAG NUT. HE SPENT A LOT OF HIS TIME SEARCHING FOR EXCEPTIONAL JAGUARS. WHEN HE FOUND THE RIGHT CAR HE BOUGHT IT AND ADDED IT TO HIS COLLECTION.... HE OWNED THIS CAR FOR 16 YEARS. HE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER IN MENLO PARK, CALIF.... HE SHOWED IT A FEW TIMES AND DROVE IT ON A FEW TOURS WITH HIS CLUB BUT PRIMARILY HE LOVED THE CAR AND POLISHED IT AND ON NICE DAYS HE DROVE IT ON THE BACKROADS AND HILLS AROUND SAN FRANCISCO BAY AND THEN HE WOULD COME HOME AND POLISH IT SOME MORE. ... I HAVE PICTURES BUT TO SEE IN PERSON WILL TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY. THE PAINT, BODY AND CHROME ARE ALL "ASTONISHING," NOT ONE DENT, DING OR SCRATCH. ALL THE RUBBER SEALS LOOK AS IF THEY ARE BRAND NEW. THE CONNOLLY LEATHER AND WILTON WOOL CARPETS LOOK AND FEEL EXCELLENT. THE BLACK CANVAS TOP LOOKS NEW AND THE TOP BOWS ARE MINT. SHE STARTS, RUNS, DRIVES AND STOPS BEYOND COMPARE (NO KIDDING, THIS MUST BE ONE OF THE VERY BEST DRIVING XKE'S IN EXISTENCE)... MY SISTER AND I WANTED TO KEEPS DAD'S CARS, BUT FRANKLY WE JUST DON'T USE THEM ENOUGH.....I HAVE DRIVEN THIS CAR EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS (WEATHER PERMITTING). LAST WEEK I TOOK IT ON A 500 MILE TRIP DOWN THE CALIFORNIA BIG SUR COAST. THE CAR PERFORMED BEAUTIFULLY, IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE JOY TO DRIVE AND IT GOT THUMBS UP'S AND SMILES THE WHOLE TRIP...... WHEN WE DECIDED TO SELL THE CAR, I HAD IT COMPLETELY SERVICED AND TUNED, "ALL" FLUIDS CHANGED, NEW BELTS AND HOSES, CARBS ADJUSTED AND ANYTHING ELSE THEY SAID IT NEEDED (THE BILL WAS $1735)....... IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A NICE OLD JAG, THIS MIGHT BE THE ONE....IT'S A GOOD ONE

Vehicle Condition
.........This car truly is immaculate. THERE ARE NO SURPRISES WITH THIS ONE. Dad spent hours cleaning, polishing and waxing his toy. Keeping the car in TOP SHAPE was his passion. It starts, runs, drives and stops excellent. The tires have 95% tread left. The cosmetics are outstanding. It was just serviced, tuned and has a new battery. It has the jack, tools and spare. The original owner serviced the car at WELSH BRITISH CARS IN PALO ALTO, CALIF. AFTER DAD BOUGHT IT, HE DID MOST OF HIS OWN MAINTENANCE. DAD OWNED A SET OF THREE VERY NICE XKE'S (SERIES 1, 2 AND 3). HE ALWAYS SAID THIS CAR WAS "THE BEST DRIVING XKE HE HAD EVER DRIVEN." ...THIS CAR WAS HIS CHOICE TO DRIVE ON TOURS.........NOW THE NEGATIVES.........THE LEATHER SHIFT BOOT HAS A VERY SMALL HOLE IN IT (ABOUT 1/16th INCH).....THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A NICE FINISH, BUT IT IS NOT A PERFECT FURNITURE-LIKE FINISH.....THE BACK SIDE OF THE SEATS HAVE A COUPLE OF "SMALL SCUFFS" FROM RUBBING AGAINST THE TOP BOWS WHEN THE TOP WAS DOWN.....THAT'S ABOUT IT !!! ....IT'S NOT A CONCOURS SHOWCAR BUT IT'S REALLY REALLY NICE.....BRING YOUR JAG EXPERTS AND CONCOURS JUDGES TO CHECK THIS CAR OUT AND ADVISE YOU.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
