This 1969 Jaguar XKE roadster was acquired by the seller in 1998 from his grandfather, who reportedly purchased it from a private collection in Georgia in the early 1990s. An August 2016 service following a period of storage included carburetor and braking system rebuilds, replacement of suspension bushings, new tires, and fresh fluids. This XKE will come with a newly-installed convertible top and is offered on behalf of its owner by a colleague with recent records and a clean Georgia title.
Originally finished in Primrose Yellow, the car is believed to have been repainted in its current black prior to the ownership of the seller's grandfather. The seller describes corrosion on the leading edges of some body panels and floor panel joining surfaces.
Chrome wire wheels were mounted with new 15″ redline tires in August 2016. Brightwork and panel gaps are detailed up close in gallery photos below. A new convertible top and hardware will be installed prior to the end of the auction.
Black upholstery, carpeting, and factory trim are shown up close in several photos and a period Phillips AM/FM radio remains in place. Smiths and Lucas instrumentation includes a 5-digit odometer which currently shows just over 82,500 miles, approximately 4k of which have been added by the current owner.
Engine stamping 7R3958-9 matches what's listed on the chassis plate. The 4.2-liter twin-cam six is paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox, which must be shifted gingerly into second gear according to the seller. Underhood modifications include an alternator and updated electric fans. An August 2016 service at Elite Vehicle Restorations of Denver, NC included a carburetor rebuild as well as a new fuel pump, ignition components, and fluids. An oil change was performed in March 2018.
The 2016 service also included a new inner wheel bearing, suspension bushings, brake discs and hoses as well as an alignment. The seller notes indentions in the front crossmember and a few pin-size holes in the exhaust near the resonator. Additional underbody photos are viewable in the gallery below.
