The vehicle was originally purchased by Grant E. Lowery, and was owned by him until his death in September, 1999. I have owned it since that date.

This 1969 Jaguar XKE Roadster was ordered new in Toronto by a longtime friend of the seller’s father in late 1968 and delivered on July 12, 1969. The seller’s father was gifted the car when his friend passed away in 1999, after which it was kept in storage for three years before repairs were made. Finished in Signal Red over black leather, the car is powered by a 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. An oil change was performed in May 2019, and a new fuel tank and a modern fuel pump were installed in 2018, along with updated relays for the horns and cooling fans. This Series II E-Type is offered on behalf of the current owner by his son with an owner’s manual, service and parts manuals, a factory tool kit, removed parts including the original wire wheels, a new set of brake pads, the original keys and additional spare keys, a wiring diagram, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean Ontario title.

The exterior received a repaint in its factory shade of Signal Red in 2003 following repair of a dent in the bonnet in front of the right cooling vent. According to the seller, the work was completed without filler by a marque specialist. Areas of corrosion are noted on the front bumper.

15” Borrani triple-spoke wire wheels were added by the original owner in 1989 and wear Dunlop SP tires that were mounted less than 1,000 miles ago in 2008. Rust is noted on the wheel spokes and shown up close in the photo gallery below. The original wire wheels are included with the sale. The black soft top is fitted, as is a new black tonneau cover and a top boot.

The cabin is trimmed in black leather as indicated on the Heritage Certificate, and new matching Jaguar carpets and rubber floor mats were added by the owner in 2018. The first owner added a Momo Prototipo 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel in 1989, and the factory wood-rimmed steering wheel is included with the sale.

Smiths gauges include a 160-mph speedometer, and the 5-digit odometer shows just over 30k miles. The original owner reportedly added 29k during his 30 years of ownership, and approximately 1,200 miles have been added by the current owner over the last 20 years.

The 4.2-liter DOHC XK inline-six features twin Stromberg carburetors which were rebuilt by the current owner in 2007. At that time the points, condenser, and spark plugs were also replaced. The alternator was rebuilt and the voltage regulator was replaced in 2008, and the fuel tank was replaced by the owner in 2018. A more-modern fuel pump and upgraded horn and fan relays have been installed, and the original fuel pump is included with the sale. The most recent oil change was completed in May 2019, and additional fluids were checked.

The original owner installed a stainless steel exhaust system in 1989, which can be seen in underside photos above and in the gallery below. Areas of rust are noted on the undercarriage. Following his purchase in 1969, the original owner commissioned a Ziebart rustproofing, though the car was not used for winter driving.

The Heritage Trust Certificate lists a build date of March 13, 1969, and notes the original colors and numbers. Included with the sale is the paperwork from an appraisal conducted in 1986 as well as a selection of service and parts invoices. Also included is a full-color 11×17″ wiring diagram from Classic Car Wiring. The current owner completed maintenance on the car during much of its time with the original owner. Videos below feature a start up and ride along, as well as an interview with the seller’s father discussing the car’s history.

SOLD 6/4/2019

Bring a trailer online auction $63,000 USD

Returned to Bring a Trailer after 6/04/2019 SALE was not completed.

This is a re-list after the car was previously sold on BaT in June 2019 and the winning bidder failed to follow through with their purchase commitment. The sale could not be completed due to a member who refused to move forward after the auction closed, and that member has been banned from any further participation in BaT Auctions. The non-sale was not due to any fault with the car, and the seller elected to wait until the new year to relist the vehicle. Maintenance since the last sale has included an oil and filter change, a differential fluid change, and freshly-greased U-joints in the driveshaft.
