Up for sale is my 1970 Jaguar E-type series 2 roadster with 51,168 documented miles. I purchased the car about 18 years ago from the second owner who bought it from Sheppard’s Import Motors in Tampa Florida on 6-9-1970 with 3,144 miles on it. When I asked the second owner why the car was traded in so soon, he smiled and told me the original owner was over 300 pounds and could not drive the car very easily! The car is very well documented with most all service records and the original dealerships paperwork when it was sold to the original owner on 12-29-1969. The 2nd owner bought it from Sheppard’s on 6-9-1970.
I have been restoring E-types for over 45 years and I wanted to make this car very special. I started by downloading the JCNA series 2 judging guide and my goal over the next 4 years was to build a car as close to showroom quality as possible using all the born with components when possible, when replacement parts were needed, all were purchased from the UK, S&G Barratt.
Just about everything you could do to an E-type in a restoration was done right down to the proper GNK and Crane bolts all being restored. About 95% of all the hardware is original to the car. All drivetrain numbers are matching and date codes are correct and original and this is a factory a/c car. All the body panels and floor pans are original to the car and there were never any collision or rust repairs to the body. I started with a near perfect car and body.
First the car was completely disassembled down to the tub and stripped to bare metal. The body is laser straight and was refinished in Dupont two stage. Then the car was sanded down to 5000 grit and polished (by me), this includes the firewall, sub frames, and the picture frame. The paint work may be a bit over restored but it looks amazing. All the original bumpers were sent out to be show quality chromed and all the bright work was polished as well. All rubber and weather strip was replaced, some pieces were purchased from 2 different suppliers and the best one was used, again, most all from the UK. The car has 4 new Dayton wire wheels and 4 new Cooper radials for great handling.
The interior was redone with a complete correct kit from the UK. and all gages, lights including the map and courtesy lights, reverse lights and even the radio and cigarette lighter work as they should. At this point, the car has under 200 break in miles since the restoration was completed in December 2024 so the bugs are worked out.
The engine was completely overhauled by Dave White Porsche and runs perfect. The carburetors were rebuilt with as many ethanol friendly parts as possible and then polished. The transmission and rear end assembly were also serviced and all parts replaced as needed. I did make one change in the engine compartment using a lightweight high torque starter for better reliability. Every hydraulic component and electrical motor on the car was either replaced or overhauled so mechanically, you will be getting a near new car.
The car comes with the original jack, ratchet, knock off tool and hammer, an original tool kit and the original toe board. Also the original owner’s manual and leather case, service manual and over 1,000 photos of the restoration are included.
Yes, this car is a “trailer queen” but is also right at home doing 70 mph on the open highway with no problems. I built this car to be judged in competition and feel it would do very well at any high level concourse event.
