1972 Jaguar E-type Series III V12 Roadster
Registration Number: MBD 843K
Chassis Number: IS1270
Engine Number: 7S5732SB
“The turbine-like smoothness with which the engine provides a sustained shove in the back is almost uncanny, the more so when one accelerates hard in top gear without even a gearchange to interrupt one’s headlong dash into the distance”. (Autocar 5th July 1973)
A magnificent swansong, the Series III E-type broke cover in 1971. Powered by a fabulous new 5343cc ohc V12 engine developing some 272bhp and 304lbft of torque, it was both faster and more refined than its predecessors. Reputedly capable of 150mph and 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds (when equipped with the preferred four-speed manual gearbox), it also enjoyed improved roadholding courtesy of its broader track, revised suspension geometry and wider tyres. Imbued with a more muscular stance thanks to its flared wheelarches, re-profiled wings and larger grill, it also benefited from vented disc brakes and a restyled interior.
Registered on the 7th June 1972, this particular example has had just four owners from new. Substantially original (albeit cosmetically refreshed in the 1990s), its current odometer reading of 70,185 is confirmed by an extensive history file. Maintained by the likes of Ivydene, XK Engineering, Vicarage and more recently Axtell, it remains in very good overall condition. Finished in Antique white with red leather upholstery, its smart trim includes a tonneau cover. Offered for sale with V5 registration document, history file and current MOT certificate, it is of course eligible for historic class (free) road tax.

For sale at Duke of London for £59,995. Seller's description below.
This 1972 E Type roadster is an original right hand drive example of the thunderous V12 engine Series 3 variant. finished in the attractive combination of white over red leather. A thoroughly usable and very presentable car, this E Type has a large history file with numerous invoices detailing decades of upkeep as well as a large number of certificates documenting this car's limited mileage between MoT tests which tally with the mileage shown today of 76,000.
Boasting the preferred manual gearbox, the car presents well today and represents an ideal grand tourer. Whether the next owner chooses to enjoy the car as it is or tidy up a few minor areas for a cosmetically perfect example is to their discretion though we would be tempted to take advantage of this variant of the E Type's superlative driving characteristics and enjoy many miles with the top down and the V12 singing.
