Car to be at auction 2/20

rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/pa20/paris/lots/r0037-1971-jaguar-e-type-series-3-v-1 ...

Auction description:

1971 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V-12 Roadster

RM | Sotheby's - PARIS 5 FEBRUARY 2020

Chassis No. 1S 20122

Engine No. 7S 4739 SA

Lot 182

Sold For €70,500

In previous decades, new car owners would often take delivery direct from the factory. The original owner of this Series 3 E-Type did exactly that, picking up the car at Jaguar’s Brown’s Lane factory in early 1972 before driving his new steed around Europe. According to its JDHT certificate, this E-Type was delivered in white with a red interior, exactly as presented today, with a lovely patinated interior.

In May 1972, after its European tour, this E-type sailed to New York aboard the famous Ocean Liner SS France. The original shipping documents remain with the car. After residing in New York for a period, this E-Type was sold in October 1981 by the estate of Robert Coller to Ace Tire Company of Ridgefield, Connecticut, displaying just 5,900 miles. Ace Tires would repaint the car in the 1980s and go on to retain it for many years.

However, it would not remain in the U.S. indefinitely. Imported into the UK in the summer of 2017, it had travelled just 13,000 miles, a figure supported by the paperwork on file. This stunningly original Series 3 E-type is a fine example, and now reunited with its original UK plate, it has truly come full circle.
