Advertised on carsales.com.au 22 May 2021 asking AUD$145,000. Car is located in Latrobe, Tasmania, Australia. Seller’s description (edited) follows:
After almost 21 years’ ownership, E-type roadster is for sale. Matching numbers (chassis 1S 2240, engine 7S 12989SA, body 4S 5501 and gearbox KL 6118) 4 speed manual, Series 3 V12 Roadster, with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate (# 25898), it was manufactured on the 15th August 1973 and first registered in January 1974 in the UK.
The original service manual records UK service history to 22,610 miles, including a memo that a new clutch was installed at 22,000 miles. The date of relocation to Australia and history prior to purchase in 2000 are not known. However, it had just undergone a bare metal respray prior to my purchase. It has been driven sparingly and has undergone significant mechanical restoration since then.
During the first 14 years (approx. 9,000 miles) the seats were reupholstered without headrests; carpets and the tonneau cover were replaced; the cooling system and fans were refurbished and the Opus Ignition System was replaced with a Lucas Reopus 4 System. A new clutch was fitted as a condition of purchase in June 2000.
Between April 2015 and March 2017, the V12 engine and gearbox were completely rebuilt; new clutch, clutch plate, clutch master cylinder and bearings were fitted; the flywheel was ground and balanced; new front discs, new brake booster and master cylinder were fitted with hoses and pads all round; a complete new exhaust system, new springs and shocks and lower front suspension bushes, new rear drive shaft units and right rear lower hub bearing and rear wheel bearings were fitted; Stromberg carburettors were refurbished/tuned. A new folding hood, Momo steering wheel and spin-on oil filter adaptor were also fitted.
Further work was undertaken in April 2018 by specialist Jaguar restorers, Jag E-Type Restorations, Somerton. The Strombergs were rebuilt and tuned, power steering rack seals were replaced, door latch parts were replaced as required. More recently a new brake master cylinder has been fitted to resolve reaction valve issues.
The odometer is approaching 57,000 miles – 16,000 in the last 21 years, less than 7,000 on the new engine, gearbox etc.
Inside the cabin everything is original.
