Car was at auction in '08
www.rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm
Auction description:
The Astor Collection
27 - 29 June 2008
Lot 354
1974 Jaguar XKE Series III Roadster
To be auctioned on Sunday, June 29, 2008
Sold for $38,500
Chassis no. VE1S23590BW
The E-Type presented here has been part of the Astor Collection for quite some time. It was purchased new from a Jaguar dealership in San Rafael and it is believed that Mr. Astor is only the car's second owner. Now showing approximately 62,000 miles on its odometer, it retains its original white paint and, with the exception of the black convertible top and tan leather interior, which was redone in 1984, the car remains remarkably original. As would be expected, any paint defects are attributable to its originality but overall, the paint presents nicely and is free of any disastrous flaws. The interior has been nicely maintained since its restoration and the engine bay and undercarriage appear to be entirely original, with evidence of road use apparent.
With such optional features as chrome wire wheels, a rear-mounted luggage rack, air conditioning, and automatic transmission, this Jaguar is a wonderful example of the final E-Type series, V12-powered in the grand touring style.
