We are pleased to offer this original right-hand drive UK-supplied 1974 E-type Series III roadster. Dispatched on 14th February 1974 through Evans Cutler of Plymouth, the car was finished in Signal Red with a Black leather interior and featured a manual gearbox. Issued with Plymouth registration plate 'XCO 777M', the first owner was a Mr B. E. Harris of the Alpine Hotel, Torquay. He kept the car until June 1975 when it was sold to a Mr H. Woofenden of Salcombe. In 1977 a Mr Edward Walker took ownership and was to keep it for a further 4 years before 'XCO' was bought by a Mr Martin Kettle of Crewe as a present to his son. Unfortunately, the car was laid up until 1991 before it was acquired in the summer of 1992 by a Mr A. Brooker of Warwickshire.
The history file is a delight, with invoices dating back to 1977 at which point the car was maintained by the Jaguar distributor, Byatts of Fenton Ltd, Stoke-On-Trent, along with a host of other bills from a specialist. There is an invoice for the black Jaguar hardtop supplied by Charles Clark at a cost of £370. In August 1980, when the car had covered only 32,403 miles, the speedometer was returned to Smiths Gauges to be rebuilt, at which point it was reset. Now showing 4,610 miles, we believe the total mileage of just over 37,000 miles from new to be correct corroborated by 26 previous MOT certificates starting with 1977 and finishing in 2013.
A bill for £5,400 from Alscot Garage in 1998 shows the engine and gearbox were removed, split and cleaned before a new clutch was fitted. Other work carried out at the time included; a new steering rack, brake calipers overhauled and the rear subframe dismantled, cleaned and repainted, along with a host of other remedial work. Most recently, the car has been through the workshop and a fresh MOT will be obtained ahead of the sale.
The car is supplied with a UK V5c, its original Jaguar wallet containing its operating, maintenance and service handbook, a Jaguar Heritage Certificate, the original wheel nut spanner and mallet. This low mileage Series III, equipped with hardtop, is an incredibly rare find and we urge you to come and view this car before original home-market cars such as this one become even more scarce.

Seller's description:
The Jaguar Heritage Certificate that accompanies this stunning Series III V12 E-Type Roadster confirms that this is a matching numbers car retaining its original colour scheme of Signal Red and Black Leather. It was despatched from the factory in February 1974 and originally supplied by A J Beal of Exeter and then registered to its first keeper a B E Harris of Torquay on 24 June 1974, (M Reg). Today there are 42,000 miles recorded which we understand to be correct based on the very comprehensive records that are present with the car. The Black Hard Top which is with the car was acquired shortly after the car was supplied new. A precis of the ownership trail records four further named and documented private owners; together with the details of cherished numbers used on the car between June 1975 and 2017 when the most recent and sixth keeper acquired the car from us with just 37,084 miles recorded. Previously between 1981 and 1991 the car was laid up and this is certified by B S Marson and Sons of Crewe. Following the aforementioned period in storage the fifth owner, an Anthony Brooker acquired the car in August 1992 for the sum of £35,000, with 33,628 miles recorded, (1,225 miles from reset of the Speedometer in 1980 by Smiths with 32,403 miles recorded). Mr Brooker spent £5,400 on repairs and maintenance with Alscot Garage. Whilst adding to the provenance of its early life, which is undoubtedly lovely to have recorded, our experience shows that monies spent on maintenance 20 or so years ago will probably have little bearing on a cars’ health today. So, bringing us up to date, since his acquisition of the car from us in 2017 the most recent keeper has, during his five years of ownership, spent over £30,000 with Winspeed Motorsport of Guildford, maintaining and improving what today must be one of the very best unmolested Series III E-Types available for sale anywhere. The works carried out by Winspeed are too extensive to fully list here without giving reader fatigue, but to summarise they include: Suspension and Brake overhaul, including Shock Absorbers, Bushes, Lines and full Geometry set up; new Timing Chain, Tensioners and Guides, Tappets, Bearings, Crankshaft Lipseal conversion, new Rear Main Seal, Flywheel and Clutch; Stainless Steel Sports Exhaust, High Torque Starter Motor, Uprated Alternator, new Blockley Tyres, new Battery, Carburettor re-build and much more. The works carried out fill two sides of A4 line by line. It is rare and exciting to find a car where we can identify every owner from new and know the exact mileages when changes of ownership occurred. This fabulous provenance is further enhanced by such a low recorded mileage and comprehensive history. Moreover, recent expenditure with a marque expert serves to under-pin the desirability of this very special E-Type. The car is not with us on site, but viewing can be arranged easily by appointment.
