Lot 176: 1972 JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES III 2+2
Exceptional Motor Cars and Automobilia, Christies (26th June 2006)
Overview
48,000 miles from new
Body No. 4S53622
Dark blue with red leather interior
Engine: V12, overhead camshafts, 5,343cc, 241bhp at 4,750rpm; Gearbox: four speed manual; Suspension: independent, double wishbones with torsion bars to front; independent to rear, with twin coil-spring damper units on each side; Brakes: hydraulic discs all round. Right hand drive.
This example was built with the proven four-speed manual 'box. Dispatched to its first owner, an H. Spencer of Birmingham, on 7 February 1972, it passed through three ownerships between 1976 and its acquisition by the vendor in March 1982. Service history exists from this current ownership, but usage has been extremely light during these 24 years. Indeed the odometer still shows a mere 48,000 miles, compared to the 44,410 recorded on the MoT certificate from 1986.
While still in its original colour of dark blue, the paint has clearly been refreshed at some stage prior to the current ownership. It remains in good condition with a straight and damage-free body. The contrasting red interior is also wearing its age very well indeed, showing a comfortable amount of wear perhaps lighter than its age might suggest. Unused for some time, the car has four new tyres, and we are assured that it will be serviced and MoT'd in time for the sale. As such it will present an attractive and on-the-button example of this undervalued model.

- 'Current ownership since March 1982. Used for pleasure including the occasional tour in France but otherwise it has spent many years in the garage waiting for a sunny day. Brought out in recent years for MOT testing and then put back in the garage. Would benefit from the carburettors being set-up but a good, usable car'
