    Auctioneer's description:
    Lot n° 16

The catalogue for the above sale describes the car as an original example of a V12 coupe in a rare colour, Ascot Fawn. This E type is a European specification model that has never been restored. It is in good order and comes with a history file. In France since 1984, it has had two owners. The car has been kept in good order and the odometer at 102,341 kilometres is correct. The body is free of corrosion and it is believed to be the original paintwork. The upholstery is original and the leather is neither cracked or torn, however it could do with cleaning. The carpets have been renewed. The V12 engine does not match the number on the builder's plate. With air conditioning and a four speed transmission the V12 works particularly well. There is a wood rim steering wheel and the four Michelin XWX tyres are in good order. Included are copies of recent maintenance bills. Sold for 31,860 euros.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
