Ebay item 6/11/07
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $4,716, reserve not met, 6 bids, 5 days left in auction. 108k miles.
Sellers description:
1971 Jaguar 'E' Type Series 3 V-12 XKE. This classic sports car is in very sound mechanical condition with need of some minor cosmetic repairs.
The V-12 is a strong, smooth engine... It can be tempermental, I burn 100 octane aviation fuel whenever possible - the improved ride is well worth the extra cost. The car thanks you for it and it is still cheaper than a tune-up.
The interior is in good shape... not English glove leather, but a recent remodeling by a good interior shop.
If you're gonna drive a sports car... ya gotta be a sport. Its a fun driver, but its not a show car. For all the fun, its still a 36 year old sports car; subject to all the aches & pains that go along with an older car... especially an old Jag. Major known flaws include:
* The car is equipped with AIr Conditioning, but it has not worked since I owned it.
* It has the typical Jaguar leaks & leaves spots on the garage floor.
* The left front headlight & turn signal, along with part of the nose got crunched while teaching my daughter to drive a stick... yeah, I know - but she IS my daughter and it is the only clutch car in the family.
* There is rust/corrosion/paint bubbles above the right rear wheel well.
* 10-4 good buddy: The radio is a 70's vintage, complete with a built-in CB radio and a very marginal antenna.
I have owned the vehicle for the last 7 years, having bought it from a gentlemen in Atlanta that purchased it for his wife... turns out she wanted a Lexus. The mechanic that has worked on this car since I owned it was factory trained in Coventry, England on the XKE. He owns and races 3 Jags and has seen a lot of them. He has blessed the vehicle as being in sound mechanical condition, paying special attention to the brakes... he told me "Old guys need brakes first - then power." ... having recently replaced the master cylinder. "It's a solid car that could use some cosmetic TLC."
