Ebay item 5/28/08
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Opening bid $12,000, no reserve, no bids yet, 3 days left in auction. Buy it now price $16K

Sellers description:
This is a salvage vehicle and is being sold for parts only. It is not operational or street legal. 1971 Jaguar Series 3 2+2 Coupe with V12 Engine BEING OFFERED AT NO RESERVE! Buy this car for parts? (Yea right.. whattaya? crazy?) Or use your imagination to envision what this could be ... and truly is. These “basket cases” are required by Ebay to be listed in the “salvage” category. Virtually RUST FREE straight and original 85,885 mile car that appears to have been driven in fair weather only and pampered and garaged it’s entire life. Under a 14 year no expense spared restoration by a very meticulous professional mechanic the car is totally apart and requires reassembly and detailing. However.... If you want a big boy’s model kit to play with here it is........ Read carefully from here on....... Originally delivered in Signal Red with Black leather interior 5.3L V12 Automatic transmission fully optioned with A/C, PS,PB, Tilt/Tele, rear defrost, fog lights and probably more. Engine and chassis numbers match the data plate on the firewall AND the last "accessory" I refer to near the end of this listing. The engine is free, turns over easily and was running perfectly when the REBUILT TRANSMISSION was removed for rebuilding. The engine had to be removed to get at the trans, so... The owner thought "Why not"?.. Keep on going with the restoration? The result is seen here 14 years later. The dashboard and wiring are all factory intact and unmolested. EVERY ORIGINAL COMPONENT IS INCLUDED. In addition to the BRAND NEW ITEMS as follows: The car has 5 BRAND NEW MICHELIN RED LINE TIRES mounted. There is a NEW STARTER, NEW ALTERNATOR, NEW RACK and PINION, newer A/C compressor, 2 boxes contain a COMPLETE NEW LEATHER INTERIOR KIT FROM Original Specification Jaguar Interiors. There are 2 boxes with a COMPLETE NEW FALCON STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST SYSTEM from Dick Ames. There is a box full of BRAND NEW RUBBER COMPONENTS hoses weatherstrips etc. There are new brake pads some new wiring components, electrical parts etc. There is a box full of brand new filters. And far more brand new stuff that I have not even opened and couldn't possibly itemize if I did. The ORIGINAL tin, panels, access plates, ducts, brackets misc. bits and pieces have ALL been either blasted cleaned or otherwise refinished then repainted and wrapped in newspaper from 1994. The body has been stripped prepped and painted the original code with Sherwin Williams acrylic enamel. The car has been wet sanded but only the bonnet has been buffed at this point. Unfortunately the paint will need a couple of repairs, it appears as if something was dropped on the left front fender and there is also heavy ding in the right door. The panel gaps appear factory perfect with the exception of the lower passenger door tip which protrudes ever so slightly. There is absolutely no evidence of accidents or damage of any kind. The forward structure and engine compartment are clean straight and repainted. There appears to be a silver dollar sized rust hole that was filled in the corner of the passenger toeboard area, (Possibly a heater core or A/C condensation issue?) otherwise the underside of the car is extra clean and still has much of the original paint and undercoat intact. I can not find any other rusted areas on this vehicle anywhere. The buyer can inspect and verify all this on my lift prior to taking delivery. Wheels appear to have been waxed before storage and have oh so very light pitting that would probably become invisible with polishing. The bumpers, stainless trim, emblems and chrome are all there, very straight and a few chrome pieces do have some light pitting. I would say they are good enough to be used as is, and/or possibly restored over time at the owner’s leisure. The headliner has dropped but you will be replacing it with the new one in the kit. The interior is dusty and needs a thorough cleaning. The rear window is out of the car but there. Other than that, the worse thing I noticed was a crack in the center console, but I would not be surprised if there is a new one in one of the many boxes of wrapped parts. The original jack set wheel hammer and knock off tool is there and would be perfect if the contents were not in contact with that smelly hemp lined old jute bag. I am by no means a Jag expert, but I truly believe EVERY SINGLE THING IS HERE TO COMPLETE A FIRST CLASS RESTORATION. To give you an idea of how much is included… the car came packed with boxes of parts inside, plus it took another 8ft. pickup bed to haul the remaining boxes of parts with the engine. I think this car is fantastic and gorgeous and would enjoy keeping it for myself. but I have far too many projects and something has to go.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
