This 1971 Jaguar XKE 2+2 was completed on August 9, 1971, distributed in the US through British Leyland Motors of New York, and is said to have remained with its first owner until it was acquired by the seller circa 2010. Powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, the car is finished in silver over black upholstery. Features include air conditioning, a push-button AM/FM radio, chrome-finished wire wheels, and four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rears. This XKE is being offered with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, documentation from previous and current ownership, spare wheels and tires, and a clean Nevada title in the seller’s name.

The bodywork was finished in silver from the factory and is said to have been repainted in the early 1990s. Exterior equipment includes a louvered hood, exposed headlights, quadruple exhaust outlets, and tinted windows. The seller notes that a paint bubble on the right-front side has been repaired and the lower air inlet is dented, though a replacement component will accompany the vehicle.

Replacement chrome-finished 15” wire wheels feature faux knock-off spinners and are mounted with 215/70 Toyo Eclipse tires, and a full-size spare is found in the rear storage area. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The front and rear shock absorbers and rear springs were reportedly replaced in 2011, while work in May 2022 is said to have included replacing the brake pads and the master and slave cylinders. A set of four steel wheels with tires and chrome hubcaps is included in the sale.

The 2+2 cabin houses seats trimmed in black leather along with a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Black carpets line the floors, and amenities include air conditioning, a push-button AM/FM radio, an analog clock, crank windows, and rocker switches for vehicle functions as well as a locking glovebox. The headliner and sun visors were recovered in 1990, and photos show discoloration on the driver’s seat.

The three-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket cover and sits ahead of a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a matching tachometer. A suite of auxiliary instrumentation is found in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 64k miles, approximately 30k of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory rated at 272 horsepower. The seller states that the four Zenith-Stromberg carburetors were overhauled and that the fuel tank gaskets were replaced under current ownership. An ignition system reportedly sourced from a 1989 Jaguar V12 has been installed in the factory ignition box and features a PerTronix coil. The oil and spark plugs were reportedly last changed in May 2020. Work in 2021 is said to have included replacing the fan relay, lower radiator hoses, and thermostats. Oil seepage is visible on the engine.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission. The seller states that the differential fluid was changed in 2018 and notes leaks from the transmission pan bolts. Discoloration is visible in the spare tire well.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate shows the factory colors and identification numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
