It is getting very hard to find nice, quality Jaguar XKE V12 Series 3 Coupes anymore, particularly in the condition of this fine example. With remarkable mechanicals and beautiful cosmetic details, this is one of the best looking V12 coupes I have seen in a very, very long time. A car to be very proud of - good enough to show, but not so perfect you would not want to drive it. And driving this drop dead gorgeous car is the best part! Wonderful V12 engine sounds and a robust exhaust note will fill your Saturday morning drives. Or, make your short commute to work more interesting! The air conditioning blows cold, the heat blows hot…why not.



The four speed transmission keeps you entertained like a proper sports car should, yet the car is comfortable and civilized enough for you to not feel fatigued - once you have arrived at your destination. Good thing, as you will need some energy to answer questions from admiring fans, many eager to provide approval for a shape loved by everyone who sees it. A simple trip to the gas station becomes an event, with discussions with those who remember this Jaguar from their youth. The convertibles are beautiful, but the shape of the Coupe is stunning….and sighting of these cars are very rare these days.



Unfortunately, many of the Series 3 Coupes were not viewed as collectible - and therefore as valuable as their convertible siblings. Routine maintenance and quality restorations common on the convertibles – seemed to have missed many of the coupes over the last 35 years, leaving them worn out and used up. But not this one!



A quality “engine out” re-spray in Dark Blue was applied in October of 1997 at the 60,400 mile mark, which has held up nicely. The interior is clean and original with gray leather over navy blue carpets. You will not be disappointed here, as the pictures tell the story for me. While the engine was out, the maintenance records indicate the clutch and related components were refreshed - thank you Jesus – as this was the proper time and only way to complete this maintenance. The clutch and four speed transmission operate properly and without issue. In fact, the entire car functions quite nicely and everything works - including the original German Kienzle electric clock. Sure the German made time piece does not hold the best time anymore – but that’s the beauty of it. It loses about a half an hour a week – which makes me laugh, but its simple to adjust every so often. (The original owner’s manual actually reads: The instrument is regulated at the factory and should not require further adjustment…. : > )



I am the third owner of the car, which sold new from British Motor Car Distributors, Inc. in Portland Oregon on 6/13/1972 - for a total cost of $8,762.00. The original buyers order lists the options at the time of sale to be:

The cars second owner lived in the San Francisco Bay and purchased the car in approximately 1996. I purchased the car in October of 2006. I am a small dealer and appreciator of really nice and unusual sports cars. I only buy cars that I love; I play with them first, giving them any attention they need and then sell them. Hey, someone has to do it! My day job is actually with Jaguar Cars in the Marketing Department at our headquarters in Irvine, CA. I displayed this car will some fair fare at the opening of our new Jaguar Land Rover Dealership in Mission Viejo, CA this past January.



The service and restoration records reveal constant attention from caring owners. A large sum of money has been spent over time to keep this car operating optimally and looking fresh. Receipts from the vehicles second owner are quiet extensive and interesting. This owner exercised the car often and can be credited for giving the car its second life so to speak.



The air conditioning system has received attention over the years and cools down the car very nicely for a foreign car manufactured in 12/1971. All three fan speeds, low, medium, and high blow cold air – with the high speed being quite strong. The cooler knob controls the length of time the compressor stays on – and therefore controls refrigeration.



The original AM/FM Radio and power antenna are now mated with a Sony six disc CD changer hidden under the passenger seat and controlled via a small remote. Allowing the best of both worlds, the sound system is not very impressive, but does allow for modern listening when desired.



Recent maintenance includes a new alternator, spark plugs, miscellaneous light bulb replacements, mechanical adjustments, and a fresh lube, oil, and filter change. Garaged and covered when not in use - this car is ready to drive or show.



Negatives: Not many, the paint is really very nice, but the car has been driven so there are a few minor rock chips on the nose and wheel well areas. The passenger door had one chip that really bothered me, a few inches below the door handle. I had the blemish filled by an automotive paint specialist I have used before - with a single stage paint matched to the gas filler door. The plan was to apply the paint a few times, allowing it to dry for a full week in between each application, and then wet sand the area, hopefully leaving it virtually undetectable. However, after a single application of paint, the blemish became quite acceptable to me. So I stopped there, never completing the additional applications or wet sanding. I simply did not want to risk having anything go wrong. If I did not say anything, you would need to walk around the car a few times before you would spot it, and I was not able to capture it in photographs.



The Avon tires are about 50 – 60%. The brake pads are about 50%. The wire wheels appear to be original and have a few dings in the knock offs, but they look great and this adds some patina. The car did not appear to leak anything when I bought it home. I was kind of amazed. I switched to synthetic oil which now seeps a little leaving a few coin drops over time. The front hood / bonnet fit is actually very good. In some of the photos, I forgot to latch the bonnet on the drivers side after taking the photos of the engine. Once properly latched, there are no gaps. Mechanically I cannot think of anything that needs immediate attention – if it needed anything, I already completed it, and the previous owner appears to have done the same.

Purchased in 11/09. The drive from Bend Oregon to the Reno NV area and home put more miles on this car than the previous owner did in 2 plus years!! Great trip with only one issue, oil pressure gauge. The wire to the sender was only touching it and not actually hooked up. Quick fix and a great run home.
