24,387 MILES, ON EBAT 09/08

Sellers description:
1973 Jaguar E-Type, Series 3, 2+2 for auction.
This was the last year for the 2+2 Coupe, and as all collectors know, the first and last year of any item are the most collectable of the series. I purchased this car in September of 1989 with 20,720 original miles. As of September 12, 2008, it has booked a mere 24,387 totally pleasurable miles. That's just over 200 miles per year since the 1989 purchase.

Of all the great vintage Sports Cars (such as MG, Triumph, Lotus, Aston Martin, Austin Healey, Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, etc), many of us feel that the Jaguar has the most beautiful lines and the sweetest sound of them all!

With the exception of several small parts, the car is totally original (to the best of my knowledge and based on the purchase appraisal). In fact, it was shown by the previous owner, and from what I understand, did very well on the circuit. At the time of purchase, the appraisal was based on a concourse rating of 99 points. While an additional 19 years has taken some toll on the vehicle, it still elicits shouts and applause from onlookers, and causes other vehicles to stop and request pictures, information and especially free rides!

This car enjoys every factory option Jaguar offered in 1973. Stunning Primrose Yellow with black leather seats and all black interioir, it definitely is one eye-stopping vehicle. Powered by the racing-inspired overhead-cam V12, it runs like a "raped ape." Even during the cold, it starts immediately after given some choke. From that point on is sweet bliss...the V12 just purrs like a cat at idle, has a slight rumble under constant load and has that typical Jaguar "Growwwl," when accelerating under heavy load. As any Jaguar enthusiast knows, there is no sound comparable to that of a finely tuned Jaguar V12. The Borg Warner 4-Speed Manual Transmission is as tough as nails; the rear drivetrain is so good that it is used in many non-Jaguar show and racing vehicles; and, the four-wheel disc brakes stop this beauty "right now." Also, the aftermarket Pirellis stick like glue to the road and make handling a breeze. For its entire life, the car has been stored in a heated, smoke-free garage. It is currently stored in a small town outside Cincinnati, Ohio. Additionally, the car itself has been smoke-free, food-free and drink-free (at least since the 1989 purchase). Even though this sweetheart has not been driven a whole lot since 1989, it has received regular maintenance and the engine has been turned over on a regular basis. Everything on the car is in fine working order, although the AC does need to be charged.

The Vehicle Identification Number is UD1S73967.

Recent maintenance includes the following:
1. Transmission - Rebuilt transmission using OEM parts;
2. Radiator - The radiator core was rebuilt and replaced with a higher density unit, allowing for better cooling. The original housing was maintained;
3. Carbuerators - All four Carbuerators have been rebuilt and tuned;
4. V12 Engine - The engine has just been tuned in preparation for sale;
5. Tachometer - Rebuilt and calibrated the tachometer...needle no longer jumps around, nor does the gauge fluctuate from functional to non-functional while driving down the road. Please note that only the Tach has been rebuilt and calibrated. All other gauges function perfectly and display excellent temperature and pressure readings...even during city driving or under heavy load;
6. Headliner, Visors & Liner Trim - Replaced all of these items with a mohare material that matches OEM Stock perfectly. The craftsman did an awesome job...so much so, that one would never know the items are not original;
7. Floor Matts - Two new Floor Matts have been added to the front seats. They are made of a heavy black carpeting material and have the current Jaguar logo sewn into the center of the matt. They are not attached permanently, and the original carpeting remains beneath these matts. They were added merely to preclude additional wear to the carpeting;
8. Detailing - The entire vehicle has been detailed in sync with the frequent maintenance performed during the last 19 years;
9. Fluids - Where feasible, Amzoil Synthetic products (having Racing Specifications) have been used; and,
10. Aftermarket Replacement Parts - As stated previously this car is almost entirely original, with the following being the only exceptions that I am aware of...new Pirelli Tires; Battery; Distributer Cap; Plugs; Wires; Headliner, Visors & Trim (as described above); Floor Mats (as described above);

Issues which Buyer may desire to be address:
1. Paint - While I believe the paint to be original, time has taken a toll on its appearance. There are several small chips at various locations on the car, one small ding on the hood (ie, bonnet!), and thinning on the roof. While the current paint does not compete with a new $10,000 paint job, it still has an awesome shine and turns a whole lot of heads! This shine coupled with the brilliance of the Chrome makes for one stunning vehicle. However, if any buyer is looking to show the vehicle, a new paint job will probably be required;
2. AC - The AC system is in excellent working order. As a "purist," I don't believe in AC for a sports car, so the system needs to be charged if the buyer sees this differently;
3. Interior AC Vents - Several of the vertical louvers in the AC vents in the dashboard are missing;
4. Rust - There is very shallow surface rust in the air dam beneath the grill;
5. Engine Heat Shields - The passenger-side shield is bent. It appears someone leaned on it while working; and,
6. Leather Seats - The leather is in overall excellent condition. There are no rips, tears or cuts anywhere to be found. As shown in the attached photos, howeever, there is some very shallow stretch marks which will be resolved with a simple redyeing of the seats (Note: Unfortunately, the interior photos are somewhat over-exposed, which exagerates this condition of the seats).The redyeing process is very easy to do and very inexpensive. I left it as-is so any prospective buyer would know exactly what he/she was looking to purchase.

So, all-in-all, this car presents itself as a stunning example of British Craftsmanship from the early 1970s. It looks awesome sitting still or driving by; it sounds phenominal with that throaty growl while accelerating; and, it feels great in the seat while driving this sensational "Survivor."

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
