1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Coupé

Registration no. JSL 722L Chassis no. UD1574017BW

Sold for £ 30,000 (US$ 41,508)

Bonhams MPH July Auction

17 Jul 2021, 13:00 BST

Bicester, Bicester Heritage

Odometer reading: 12,700

MOT: 28/05/2022

*V12 E-Type

*Rebuilt engine

*Well-maintained with extensive history

This 1972 Jaguar E-Type is a beautiful Series III example that was originally a US left-hand drive car finished in silver with black leather. However upon its arrival in the UK in 1996, the car was finished in British Racing Green with magnolia leather interior, so it is believed to have been fully restored, re-painted and re-appointed at some point whilst in the US. There is an extensive history file with detailed documentation of its ownership and service records since its arrival in the UK. It is recorded to have had four owners since 1996, and has changed hands in 1998, 2000 and 2006. The car was purchased by the vendor in 2006, and he has kept it in an excellent condition. During his ownership the car has had a full engine rebuild and has been serviced meticulously. The rear end and subframe have also been removed and powder coated, and new brake discs, shock absorbers and springs have also fitted. The car is overall in a very good condition and its V12 engine is said to be running well.

Car to return to auction 8/21

angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic/sat-28th-29th-august/1972-jaguar-e-type-siii-53- ...

Sold for £ 30,000 (US$ 41,750) at above auction.

Auction description:

Estimate: £34,000 - 38,000

V5 Present

Chassis number: UD1S74017BW

In 1998, it was stripped down and bodily restored, along with an engine rebuild, at which point the speedometer was zeroed. By its MoT of September 2001, it was recorded as having covered just 137 miles.

In the paperwork file is the V5 and copies of previous V5s, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate ‑ showing the car began life as a silver Series III automatic with black interior ‑ and bills from the late 1990s onwards. These show the fitment of polyurethane front bushing during 2006, and another complete engine rebuild with new parts plus gearbox work in 2008 at a cost of close to £10,000 (at 6110 miles). There are also assorted pictures and MoTs dating back to 2001, along with sundry paperwork and a spare set of keys.

Most useful to any new owner is a printed email from a previous owner detailing all the work done on the Jaguar from 1996 through to 2015, when the recorded mileage was 9940. The odometer currently reads 13,058.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
