Sellers description from above auction:
This 1971 Jaguar XKE FHC Series II is a numbers-matching car that has been with the seller since 1988. It was manufactured in June 1970 and has been driven and well maintained over the last 28 years. The car received a full body repaint in 2002 and a professional rebuild of the 4.2L inline 6 in 2013 that included a triple SU carburetor setup. It is finished in correct Signal Red over black leather interior with original engine #13193-9 as confirmed by the included Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. A recent Blackstone Labs oil sample analysis report, tools, and a clean Massachusetts title are included in the sale.
Paint shines nicely and the car is kept in a heated garage during the winter. The seller notes several paint chips, including a dime-sized bump on the bonnet, which can be seen in the photo gallery.
The chrome trim is presentable but a little tired on some surfaces. Dayton 6″ wide chrome wire wheels are fitted with Pirelli P205/70 ZR 15 tires. The body is straight but the owner notes that door fit could be improved.
The interior was refurbished in 2000 and seems to be holding up well. A period-correct and functional Becker Mexico cassette radio is fitted. The odometer shows 32,460 miles but was recalibrated and zeroed in 1989.
Smiths gauges and Series II rocker switches look to be in nice shape and the clock, which runs on a 9v battery, is functional. A battery master switch has been added to the left of the driver's footwell.
The 4.2L inline 6 engine was rebuilt in 2013 at a cost over over $9,000. A full breakdown of the work performed can be seen in the gallery below. Some highlights include:
3 SU carburetor set up and air cleaner as per Series 1
Polished cam covers as per Series 1
123 electronic ignition
Aluminum radiator by CoolCat
XJ6 SIII oil filter housing
Alternator now sits in front of the engine
Electric fan added
Several underbody shots are viewable below and the car has a nice exhaust note at idle and under full throttle.
A 3.07:1 rear axle was added in favor of the original 3.31:1 ratio, and the speedometer was changed accordingly. A CoolCat radiator and high torque geared starter have also been added.
The seller has an Excel spreadsheet of all the work he has done to the car. This Series II Fixed Head Coupe looks perfect for rallies for local shows and should be ready for many miles after the engine rebuild.
