    1961 Jaguar E Type 3.8 Series 1 FHC
    Black
    Coupé
    4 Speed Manual
    3781cc in-line six cylinder
    13,606 mls (showing)
    VIN-No. 860052
    A$ 139,995

There’s just something so special about an early E Type, the purity of line (particularly in closed form) and the inviting cockpit, while the 3.8 is probably the ultimate version of Jaguar’s legendary XK motor – what it gives away in low down torque is more than made up for in its willingness to rev and there’s a great exhaust note from the twin pipes. Even the Moss box, so often mentioned as the Achilles Heel of the 3.8 E Types, has a positive feel and there’s immense satisfaction to be gained when changing gears properly.
The detailing, like the aluminium centre console and dash panel, on these early cars is fantastic and just sitting in one it’s possible to imagine the sheer excitement the E Type created when it first hit the roads back in 1961, long before the middle aged flab set in with the Series 2 models.

Beautifully presented in crisp white with contrasting red leather upholstery, this immaculate early E Type has just undergone a comprehensive recomissioning and is right on the button. One of the earliest and therefore significant E Types in Australia, chassis 860052 has been converted from flat floor on the driver’s side but is otherwise all matching numbers and nicely original. If you’re searching for an early 3.8 E Type with plenty of history and in fantastic condition, look no further…this is the one.

Well I now own the car, E-type prices are going up and I just bit the bullet and bought this beautiful car, now do I keep it standard or make it a hard top version of 850555 which I owned in UK????

OK Car is now in my garage - I have been doing the usual things one does when a new car comes along, Cleaning and polishing, greasing etc. First job was to fit larger cooling fan - this is a temporary job as I will fit an alloy rad and fixed Kenlow fan ASAP. Just need to get over the nearly $4000 stamp duty payable to NSW RTA. Still worth every penny because they do such a good job of looking after the roads and killing any sort motoring enjoyment !!!!!!
I knew car was not original when I bought it so I now have a long list of things that are not original on the car, it has had lots of work over the years, new bonnet and engine rails being the biggest and most obvious. I suppose that makes it easier to justify fitting modern parts, and we do intend to use the car so I suppose I will fit lots of bits.
Just glad to have one of these bedauties back in the garage.

Well well, we seem to have stumbled on a little gem. When we purchased the car there was very little history just a heritage certificate showing the car was supplied to a Fred Rimell who lived in the west of England. A little digging and a big thank you to Petronel Payne the UK E-type register now finds us the owners of the car supplied to T.F.Rimell the famous race horse trainer and father to Guy Rimmel who married Mary Lyons the daughter of Sir William. This information has been thrilling for us, we actually have a car that has a link to the great man himself.
I thought that being one of the first RHD coupes built and originally UK delivered it might have had an interesting first owner, but I never imagined it could have been linked to Sir William by an equally famous (in horse racing circles at least) first owner.

Well we decided to sell the coupe on and concentrate on our roadster, yesterday the old lady started her journey home to England and a new owner. It was a pleasure to own a piece of Jaguar history and I am sure the new owner (A classic car dealer form London) will enjoy her and probably make a profit on the deal.
