12/21/04 Infomation was gained in an offer to sell this car.

Sellers description:
Jaguar 3.8 E Type Chassis number 860058 Built Nov 1961 Registered 1 Jan 1962.

The total warranted mileage is an incredible 33,000 miles. Initially,
the car was supplied to the son of a wealthy family and then Mr Grose, the current owner, bought it in early 1963. From that date, it has been used sparingly and in recent years, hardly at all.

In its forty years, it has been painted once but the doors could do with a better fit.. Walking around the car, I could see very little that warranted attention. At some point the air cleaner and header tank have been replaced with late items and there is some underseal covering the inner wheel arch of the bonnet, but otherwise, it remains faithful to
its original build.

Inside, the whole area is delightfully original, right down it would appear, to the carpets and trim. Even the radio is correct to the instruction book accompanying the car. The engine is an immediate
starter and gives no indication of nasty noises. On the road, it
maintains oil pressure and the temperature holds up well. Performance is terrific and with a good service, would be even better. The Moss box is a delight to use with just a blip of throttle through third to second giving a silent downchange. When it comes to braking, there is the
usual asthmatic sign under the bonnet a the bellows servo does its stuff and actually works quite well.

This remarkable car comes with a full MOT and, after a good service, could be used immediately. We would recommend a new set of tyres to
replace the correct cross-plies for safety sake.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
