E Type Jaguar 1962 Series1 3.8 FHC RHD
For sale on eBay UK
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/E-Type-Jaguar-1962-Series1-3-8-FHC-RHD-/182553238163~y9ZBes4
Reluctantly I have to offer my E-Type for Sale.

An early matching numbers 3.8 FHC, RHD home market car with a 'Jaguar Heritage Certificate' Number 338 of 1798 produced. Original specification and in exceptional condition throughout with an extensive history file.

A collection of 16 old MOT's, the earliest dated 1973 supports the present mileage of 57699

The car has had 5 previous owners. The car was supplied in Silver grey by Sanderson and Holmes of Derby on the 19 April 1962 to the first owner. Mr A Whitehead a company director from Breaston Derbyshire who owned the car for approx 3 years. The second owner, Mr K Lindsay from Burnley had the car till June 1980 and did the bulk of the mileage (50,000), and in his 15 year ownership had the car repainted and retrimmed in the more sporty colour combination of Carmen Red with Black trim. The third owner, Mr E Farrall from Chester had the car for 8 years and sold it with 52,500 miles recorded to the forth owner, Mr J Padan from Corwen (Wales) who had the car extensively restored by a company no longer in business, 'Merlins Car Restorations' who were located in Bala Wales. In that restoration the shell was shot blasted, floor pans, boot floor, sills and front wings were renewed. Engine rebuilt, Moss gear box overhauled and a complete retrim was carried out. Since that restoration the car has only covered approx. 5000 miles. That work was completed in May 1989 and after the restoration the car was then the subject car in a book by 'Philip Porter' the 'Original Jaguar E-Type' that was published in 1990 by 'Bay View Books'. That book contains many excellent views of the car including the title page. He then kept the car for 13 years. For a period of his ownership the car was an exhibit in the 'Mouldsworth Motor museum' near Chester. He sold the car in Sept 2001 to the previous owner, Mr J Wilson-Price of Stamford who had it till late 2015 and in his 14 year ownership the car recorded only 1400 miles. Prior to my purchase I had the car inspected by an E-Type engineer from the 'Jaguar Enthusiasts Club Ltd' The car was given a complete overhaul, all points noted in his report and several others were made good the car was serviced tuned and MOT'd

Since its comprehensive restoration, repaint and retrim in 1989 and it featuring in the 'Original Jaguar E-Type' book it has been in a bit of a time warp, always dry stored and little used (5000 miles in 27 years) and remains essentially the same.

I would not pitch it as a 'Concours' vehicle, the likes of a car that has had a six figure plus sum lavished on its restoration at CMC or similar and you would only ever see trailered to a show or exhibition, but it is a superb solid example that presents and drives beautifully, a very original car retaining all of its 3.8 Series 1 features.

History file, Car cover, matching locks (two keys) it will have a fresh MOT on sale.

Car to be at auction 12/20

www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2020-12-12/cars/ref-124-1962-jaguar-e-type-s ...%C3%A9-38-litre-mrp/

Auction description;

Lot 348 - 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I Coupé (3.8 litre)

Registration 683 LUG Chassis Number 860338 Engine Number R45179 Odometer reading 58,001 miles Estimate £85,000 - £105,000

Early all matching number example including matching cylinder head

Number 338 off the production line with incredibly low mileage

Original right hand drive, manual UK supplied example

Featured in Philip Porters ‘Original Jaguar E-Type’ book

This stunning, early example of the gorgeous Series I coupé is offered in Carmine Red with black leather trim and we are informed is number 338 off the production line. It was purchased by its first owner, W A Whitehead, on 18th April 1962 from Sanderson & Holmes Jaguar in Derby. An incredibly early 3.8 coupé, this car is displaying just 58,000 on the odometer which we believe to be accurate given record of past MoT test certificates spanning some 47 years. Still boasting all matching numbers including engine, gearbox and cylinder head, this is a real collector’s example. The only change to the Jaguar supplied Heritage Certificate is that in the late 90’s the car was extensively restored and colours changed from the original Opalescent Silver with red trim to Carmine Red with black.

The car was then featured in Phillip Porters book, ‘Original Jaguar E-Type’ a restorer’s guide to 100% originality, a copy of which is found with the car. Offered today in great condition throughout and showing a very slight patina for a car that has been clearly cherished and maintained with a no expense spared philosophy. The history file includes 47 years of MoT test certificates, detailed ownership history, invoices and an original E-Type handbook coupled with the original tools and jack.

Cars with these credentials do not appear on the open market very often, an early UK supplied right hand drive car with matching numbers in such condition with low mileage, on the cusp of Jaguars 60th anniversary in 2021 and with prices tipped to rise, this presents an opportunity to collectors, investors or sheer enthusiasts like no other.
