Refurbished original steering wheel
The interior is just as the factory had intended. The seats are original and possess a delightful degree of patination. The dashboard contains all the original instruments which work as they should. The carpet is in good order and the all-important clutch kick-plate is still in position on the side of the tunnel. The rear luggage area is also original and this is possibly the only area that the new owner may want to improve as a couple of the luggage strips are detaching from the carpet a little. Apart from this somewhat inconsequential issue, the interior is in great condition for being 60 years old.
The Exterior
Professionally restored bodywork
New inner and outer sills and floors
Finished in the original colour
Recent tyres
Original wire wheels and spinners
The shape of the E-Type ensures any imperfections are plainly visible. Fortunately, this car not only has a fabulous body but a fabulous paint job to go with it. Fully resprayed during the renovations in 2018 and used sparingly since the paint appears in very good condition with a lovely deep shine. The chromework is original and remains bright as do the rear lamp clusters. The only minor imperfection is on the offside headlamp bezel which has received a dent from most likely a stone. The car stands on the proper wire wheels for its age complete with ‘knock-off’ centre spinners. A pair of highly polished tail pipes emerge from the rear as part of the hand-built stainless system.
The Mechanics
Engine rebuild in 2003
Refurbished suspension
Upgraded and improved brakes
Aluminium radiator
Dynatron Alternator
Not only has the curvy body been restored but a lot of the mechanicals have also been catered for. Throughout its life, it has not wanted for anything. In 2003 the engine was found to be using a little more oil than usual so was fully rebuilt. The 2016 MOT showed minor rust developing on an inner sill and was listed as an advisory. Inner and outer sills were replaced along with both floor pans just to be sure. A set of Cooper Craft calipers on each corner have been a worthwhile upgrade to the brake system and a Dynatron alternator preserves the appearance of a dynamo but provides the power of a modern alternator.
The cooling system and starter have also been upgraded. The car has not been test-driven but the engine appeared quiet and the gears selected easily from first to reverse during the photo shoot. There was an opportunity to photograph the instruments with the engine running which displayed everything appearing to run within normal parameters. The two files that come with the car are very enlightening, particularly the one containing the invoices as it is sub-divided into values, one of which is for invoices over £25,000.
