    I'm currently restoring this car reg No 270 EVJ & would be interested in anyone can shed any light on it's history. I purchased the car in Dec 2005 from the previous owner who had owned it from 1978.
    Previous owner informs me that when he purchased the car it was modified to series 2 spec (he claims he was told that it was done at browns lane ???), the car was restored in the 80's returning back to series 1 spec.

    The exterior will be returned to the original opalescent Silver Blue, as yet I'm undecided on the interior colour as the black 4.2 interior fitted is in mint condition. however if some kind sole has a good interior for a 3.8 I'd be interested in doing a deal.

    This is a brand-new Semi-Lightweight E-Type build, boasting some of the most sought-after features for historic racing, and presented in outstanding condition. 

    Per the Heritage Trust certificate included, this build is based upon an original late 1962 right-hand-drive Series 1 3.8 FHC. 

    Under the bonnet is a brand-new Crosthwaite & Gardiner 3.8-litre straight-six, with an all-alloy block and wide-angled alloy head, producing up to 380bhp. This is mated to a four-speed manual transmission and differential from Denis Welch Motorsport. 

    First registered in November 1962, the HPI check for this E-Type shows just seven registered keepers from new. 

    As well as the freshly built alloy engine, it uses a high-specification Semi-Lightweight body shell by Rod Jay (RJ Panels), plus Bremax wiring loom, Custom Cages roll cage, and a bespoke exhaust system. 

    It has been built to compete at the upper echelons of historic motorsport on the national or international stage, and is presented in outstanding ‘zero hours’ condition as shown. 

    EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES 

    This E-Type is now finished in bright red, with the paintwork completed by XK Engineering. The body itself was fabricated by well-known specialist RJ Panels and assembled by XK Engineering, and it incorporates a lightweight bonnet, boot and doors.  

    The louvred bonnet is complemented by leather securing straps, while the headlights have lightweight acrylic covers. There are Perspex side and rear windows, and on the left rear quarter panel is a recessed Aston roller cap for the fuel filler. 

    The car rides on 15-inch 10-hole mag/alloy wheels, secured by three-eared knock-off spinners, and wrapped in new Dunlop Racing tyres. 

    Under the bonnet is a brand-new 3.8-litre engine built by renowned historic motorsport specialist Crosthwaite & Gardiner, featuring an alloy block and cylinder head, and producing a dyno-proven 380bhp. 

    There is also a stainless steel exhaust manifold, plus upgraded stainless steel 60mm downpipes and tailpipes, crafted by Ben Clowes. 

    The engine is driven through a four-speed manual gearbox and rear differential built by Denis Welch Motorsport, featuring a limited-slip differential gear kit, 3.7 crownwheel and pinion, competition aluminium differential cover, and machining of the case for added cooling. 

    Other equipment includes uprated gearbox and engine mounts, and the car is also fitted with race specification front and rear anti-roll bars and mounts, plus upgraded shock absorbers.  

    It has modified rear half shaft and drive shaft spacers, competition drive shaft outer yoke, magnesium rear uprights, plus revised front uprights and steering arms. 

    There are also lightweight wheel hubs, competition front and rear brake discs, MkIX Dunlop calliper bodies, dual master cylinders, and front brake cooling ducts. 

    A foam-filled 110-litre fuel tank has been installed. 

    The bespoke wiring loom was supplied by Bremax, and has a facility for extra lights if used for endurance racing. 

    Inside, the cabin is equipped with a single lightweight Tillett racing seat, Lifeline harness, and three-spoke leather-trimmed steering wheel. 

    There is an alloy dashboard top and front section, and the interior also features a full bolted-in historic specification roll cage built/installed by Custom Cages. 

    Accompanying the car are various invoices pertaining to the extensive and high-specification build, as shown in the photo gallery. 

    CONDITION 

    The body shell is evidently in excellent order, with the fit and finish on panels illustrated in the photo gallery below. 

    Its bright red fresh paintwork by XK Engineering is also in superb condition, having been commissioned with no expense spared, so there are no flaws or marks.  

    The spartan interior is in great shape, with the race-focused controls and other trim reflecting the car’s ‘zero hours’ status. 

    The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults. 

    SUMMARY 

    This Jaguar E-Type Series 1 FHC is presented as an ‘ultimate specification’ car that would be a formidable competitor in numerous historic racing series. It boasts an especially high-quality build, using the experience of leading specialists and featuring very desirable components to create a bespoke classic racer that should prove to be extremely quick on track.
