Ninth from last of the aluminum dash cars.
Owned by Jaguar and used as press demonstrator.
Was featured in Autosport magazine, August 21, 1964.
Sold privately (prossibly when 12 months old), and suspect it carried personal registration mark. Sold on to next owner and presume personal plate was retained, so London registration mark assigned to car.
Have continuation logbook, but not the original.
At some point car was repainted red colour (as per continuation logbook).
Suspect car has had about seven owners.
Now restored to A1 condition and back to its' original colour scheme.

This Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 FHC is a handsome and very well-presented example of the elegant classic British sports car, offered from long-term family ownership, and previously benefitting from a full restoration.
Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre straight-six, fed by triple SU carburettors, producing around 265bhp, and driving the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
The odometer shows 72,132 miles from new.
This E-Type boasts interesting provenance having been originally owned by Jaguar, and used as a press car.
First registered in September 1963, it has been with the seller and fourth owner for around five and a half years, though it is understood to have been in the seller’s family for 13 years.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
As an early Series 1 E-Type, this example features the desirable textured aluminium dashboard and transmission tunnel trim inlays.
This example is finished in the sophisticated hue of Opalescent Gunmetal over a red leather-trimmed interior, featuring a contrasting black dashboard, and chrome trim accents.
It rides on a set of 15-inch polished wire wheels with two-spoke spinners, shod in Federal Super Steel 731 tyres.
The factory specification includes a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, push-out rear quarter light windows, Smiths gauges, heater and ventilation controls, dashboard toggle switches, manually operated windows, and a Motorola radio.
This example now features upgraded Cooper Craft front brake callipers.
The car will be accompanied by two keys, the original V5 booklet, the owner’s manual, a copy of the 1964 Auto Sport magazine that featured the car when it was in Belgium, a production record trace certificate from Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, extensive photos and invoices from the restoration, and a personal record of all work carried out.
CONDITION
The Opalescent Gunmetal paintwork has been resprayed during the car’s lifetime is reported to be in excellent condition, though the seller notes that there is a slight blemish on the nearside rear quarter panel. There are also very minor blemishes on the front nose cone, a small patch of bubbling on the nearside front wheel arch, and a minor imperfection under the driver’s door handle.
Stepping inside, the retrimmed cabin is presented in excellent order. The seller notes slight discolouration on the edges of the offside kick panel, and wear on the tailgate leather. There is also mild creasing on the seats, very slight signs of wear on the driver’s seat bolster, and small splits and wrinkling on the tailgate leather.
The seller notes that the exhaust has developed a slight blow, the radio does not function, and the rev-counter has also stopped working.
The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 12 August 2017 at 71,885 miles, resulting in a clean, first-time pass.
This vehicle is now believed to be exempt from mandatory MOT testing as it is more than 40 years old.
SERVICE HISTORY
This E-Type’s most recent recorded maintenance was carried out in July 2015 at 71,757 miles by Michael Hobson Auto Electrical, which consisted of an engine oil and filter change, grease being applied all around the suspension components, and the cylinder head removed and repaired.
A previous service was performed in February 2011 at 70,500 miles, which included an engine oil and filter change, the cam cover gaskets being replaced, a new starter motor fitted, a starting fault being rectified, and all the suspension components greased.
A comprehensive overhaul and restoration was carried out by Series One Spares between January and August 2008.
Other notable maintenance includes the brakes being stripped and cleaned, and a new battery being fitted.
SUMMARY
This Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 FHC is a handsomely specified example of the beautiful classic British sports car, offered from long-term family ownership, and benefitting from previous restorative maintenance. Originally owned by Jaguar and used as a press car, it now presents in excellent overall condition, and boasts a sophisticated colour scheme, and a harmonious straight-six engine. While it may benefit from a routine service given the time elapsed since its last, this well-cared for E-Type would make a fine addition to any assembly of classic British icons, and a charming companion for weekend sprints, classic car show visits, and fair-weather touring alike.
