Auction description:
Autosport 2006
Grand Prix, Competition, Touring & Rally Cars Saturday 14th January 2006
Lot 226
1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe
Registration no: GHU 372B
Chassis no: 861395
Estimate: £10,000-14,000
Lot 226
This example of Jaguar's legendary E type is a Series 1 3.8 litre coupe. It has been owned by the vendor for the last 18 years, and has completed just 500 miles in that time. Immediately before this, the car was off the road for several years so the mileage of 69,000 is believed to be genuine. The car currently wears a Series 2 bonnet, but included in the sale is an original Series 1 item in primer, ready to be fitted. Also included in the sale are current and original Log Books, and a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, number 25869. A good car for a restoration project, this E type is likely to be a bargain for the enthusiast.

Registration: GHU372B
Chassis Number: 861395
Engine Number: RA4614-9
Number of cylinders: 6

Year of Manufacture: 1963
Buy now for (£): 82,000
Having travelled less than 5,000 miles in thirty-eight years, and now showing a shade under 69,000 miles, our vendor decided to undertake a meticulous mechanical and body restoration. Included within the extensive renovation were, new prop shafts, rebuilt suspension, uprated brakes, an engine rebuild, and the gearbox was changed to a Getrag 5-speed T5 to enhance driveability These works were complemented by a fresh coat of paint in period Opalescent Dark Grey and this lovely Jaguar was rejuvenated at a cost (we understand) of some £45,000.
Superbly presented today, the car is in possession of a fresh MOT, a super history file that includes the restoration invoices, and will be accompanied by the original Moss Box, EB 12731 JS (which will need recommissioning), to allay any concerns about a lack of originality. The car has been reluctantly offered for sale by our vendor, as his substantial collection of Rolls and Bentleys means that the E-Type has only been driven a handful of times in four years.
