Owner: Scott Booth

An enthusiast of all things with internal combustion engines, I love the pipe music. Currently have a 1974 Honda CB550K and a 1983 Mustang 5.0L convertible, as well as the Jag. No more toys on the horizon until the kids are out of college!

Seen on eBay. Did not reach reserve at high bid of $38,100. Ad description:

"You are bidding on a 1962 Series I Jaguar XKE roadster. The car is an original, very early flat floor model, in fact, the car is number 699 of the production run!
Clearly, the early E-types are among the most beautiful cars of all time and ours is one of the nicest in the country. Flawless, mirror finish, factory correct, Imperial Maroon paint is complemented by the 72 spoke, triple chrome plated real knock-off wire wheels that have been carefully polished and ride on new Pirelli radial tires. A new black cloth convertible top is stunning, functions perfectly.

"The interior has all the desirable features of the early Series I cars, real bucket seats in black leather and turned aluminum accents on the console and fascia. In addition, this car is the super rare flat floor model! All of the gauges work perfectly and are in mint condition. A correct Jaguar AM/FM radio has been restored, works wonderfully and is installed in the original radio space. A beautiful Nardi wood steering wheel tops off the driving environment.

"The bonnet tilts forward easily to reveal the fabulous 3.8 litre, 265 bhp, dohc six cylinder engine that is complete with the “gold” cylinder head. The engine is in rebuilt condition and runs smoothly with tremendous power. The triple SU carburetors have been adjusted to perfection; this car is fully ready to tackle the rigors of any road. The car is equipped with the Moss “crash” gearbox with close ratios and virtually unbreakable construction. The suspension, brakes and other mechanical systems have all been rebuilt or restored. "

I bought this car in January from a dealer who is about two hours from my home. The ad above is a little overstated. While the car is in very nice condition, it has some of the nits and nats that an older restoration comes with. I have not had enough road time in it, yet due to lousy east coast weather to be fully comfortable with the drive train, but the suspension, tires, and brakes are all excellent and the engine runs great, although I'm disappointed with the usual oil leaks that accompany British engines. I can't wait to get it on the road!

Unbelievable! I just got the preliminary information for my Heritage Certificate and the first buyer lived in Waterbury, CT. That was my hometown and I lived there at the time of the original purchase. What a small world.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
