Car to be at RM auction Amelia Island, Florida 3/10/07

    ESTIMATE: $110,000 - $130,000
    CHASSIS NO: J62 876531
The 1962 Series I E-Type Roadster offered here is a “flat floor” model built January 10, 1962 and delivered to Jaguar Cars New York on January 22, 1962. The car was originally purchased from British Motor Cars in San Francisco, California on March 13, 1962. The original owner was Robert Talbot, a renewed California clothier and producer of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Steve Kemp began a meticulous and completely authentic nut and bolt rotisserie restoration in of the Jaguar in 1994, during which he consulted extensively with noted Jaguar restoration expert Jim Kakuska of JK Restorations. After over 3000 man-hours and a six-figure investment, the restoration was competed in mid 2001. Accompanying the car in the sale is a full pictorial history and restoration receipts, creating a complete paper trail of the seven-year project.

The restoration was conducted with strict adherence to original factory and period specifications. From the proper weave pattern of the header panel to the original Cheney hose clamps, engine component labeling, BEES and GKN fasteners and correctly etched glass to the beautiful opalescent silver-gray exterior and the red leather interior, this Jaguar is not just as it left the factory in 1962, it is better.

The Jaguar has been driven only 475 ideal weather miles since the restoration, and has been kept in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. It has a full set of correct tools in the tool roll, a period correct Shelly screw jack and a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate.

This Jaguar has been campaigned nationally in concours events and other shows since 2003 and is a consistent 100 point concours winning car. In 2005 and 2006, the E-Type was a Jaguar Clubs of North America National Champion, achieving a perfect 100-point average score both years.

In addition to the Jaguar’s JCNA successes, the E-Type won Best of Class in the 2004 Hilton Head Island Invitational Concours d’Elegance and since 2002 has won numerous Best of Show, Best of Class and 1st Place awards in several British and European auto shows.

The Series I E-Type was featured in the book Standard Guide to British Sports Cars written in 2004, and published by Krause Publications. A 21-year veteran of Jaguar cars and numerous concours judging events stated this car is, “the finest example of any Series I E-Type I have seen.” A noted E-Type authority and restoration professional has stated, “This Jaguar is a finer example than the E-Type on exhibit in the Museum of Modern Art”.

In recent years RM has had the pleasure of offering some outstanding E-Type Jaguars, and this one ranks among the very best. As such, it deserves very close examination to be fully appreciated. The enthusiast looking for the perfect Series I roadster needs to look no further.
