This 1962 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was distributed through Jaguar Cars, New York in March 1962 and sold to its first owner in Michigan. The car is finished in Cream over a red leather interior and is powered by a 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black convertible soft top, dual exhaust outlets, split chrome bumpers, four-wheel disc brakes, independent suspension at all four corners, a Sony CD stereo, and triple SU carburetors. This XKE roadster was purchased by the seller’s father in 1995 and is now offered on behalf of his estate with a 1981 Jaguar Cars Ltd certificate and a clean Colorado title.
The body was refinished in its factory Cream during an early-1990s refurbishment performed during previous ownership. Features include a black convertible top, split chrome bumpers, glass headlight covers, and chrome moldings.
15″ chrome knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in older Avon radial tires. Braking is via four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors, and the car rides on four-wheel independent suspension with torsion bars up front and coil springs at the rear.
Originally trimmed in black, the cabin was refurbished using red leather upholstery, matching door panels, and red carpets during the early-1990s refurbishment. Equipment includes low-back bucket seats, red lap belts, an aluminum center console top, a black dash pad, and a Sony CD stereo.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. Auxiliary gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 25 miles. True mileage is unknown.
The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six features triple SU side-draft carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower. The seller recommends that the fluids be serviced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The 1981 Jaguar Cars Ltd certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers and indicates a despatch date of March 15, 1962.
