For sale at 2017 Monaco Artcurial Auction :
www.artcurial.com/fr/asp/fullcatalogue.asp
Description :
Lot 117
1962 Jaguar Type E 3.8L Roadster avec Hard-top
French title
Chassis n° 877116
Engine n°R5137-8
- Interesting Series 1
- Matching numbers
- Unusual accessories
The example on offer is a desirable 3.8-litre Series 1 version that left the Coventry factory on 16 April 1962 and was delivered the same month to a certain H. Blogg in Holland, as recorded on the Jaguar Heritage certificate. The car is presented in the original colours: opalescent silver grey body with black interior and hood. The hard-top can be collected from the owner, along with the original gearbox, which has been changed for a 5-speed Getrag box for a more comfortable drive. The current owner, a fastidious enthusiast, bought the car in 2012 and has recently refurbished the running gear. The brakes were overhauled in 2013 and fitted with aircraft-type hoses. The clutch was changed in 2014 and the electrics were completely renewed in 2016. An electric fan completes the cooling system and a cut-out has been installed. Finally, an inspection report from 2016 mentions an engine rebuild in 2005. We are therefore in the presence of one of the most desirable versions of the E-Type, presented in superb condition and with an unusual range of options, such as the Dunlop-type wheels that transform the appearance of the car. Meticulously maintained and ready to be driven, this Jaguar will appeal for its classic colour combination and the original features it offers.
Estimation 120 000 - 150 000 €

€110,000 - €130,000
Offered without reserve RM | Sotheby's - THE SÁRAGGA COLLECTION 20 - 21 SEPTEMBER 2019
Chassis No. 877116
Engine No. R5137-8
Retains its original engine and finished in original colours
Fitted with a Getrag five-speed gearbox for comfortable cruising
One of 2,726 E-Type Roadsters built for 1962
Finished in its original colours of Opalescent Grey over a contrasting black leather interior and hood, this E-Type left the Coventry factory on 16 April 1962 and was delivered that same month to H Blogg in the Netherlands. It is described as having a body and interior with a nice patina, completely free of any rust. A Getrag five-speed manual gearbox has been installed for more comfortable roadway cruising, along with Avon tyres on Dunlop racing wheels for greater sporting potential.
The car’s history file retains its original Dutch registration, as well as more recent German registrations, invoices, and a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate. A previous owner overhauled the brakes in 2013, fitting the car with aircraft-type hoses, a new clutch in 2014, and updated electronics in 2016, including an electric fan for enhanced cooling. Furthermore, the engine was rebuilt by another previous owner in 2005.
An ideal example to drive and enjoy—ownership of a Series I E-Type Roadster is a dream of many enthusiasts, and this example would not disappoint.
