This 1962 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was produced on June 19, 1962, and initially distributed through Jaguar Cars of New York. It underwent a refurbishment sometime in the 2000s and was acquired by the current owner in 2020. Subsequent work involved replacing hydraulic cylinders, the transmission mounts, and the water pump as well as overhauling the heater box. Power is provided by a 3.8-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car was refinished in blue under prior ownership and has tan leather upholstery, a tan soft and top boot, enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio. This XKE Series I roadster is now offered on dealer consignment with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and New York registration.
The Series I E-Type was equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. This example left the factory finished in Opalescent Silver Grey and was refinished in its current shade of blue under prior ownership. Additional equipment includes a tan soft top and top boot, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, triple windshield wipers, and dual exhaust outlets. Exterior blemishes are noted.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with Michelin X Radial tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brake master cylinder was replace in 2021, while the brake fluid reservoir was replaced in 2023.
The cabin houses bucket seats reupholstered in tan leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include textured aluminum trim, a sliding rearview mirror, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio. The heater box was overhauled in 2021, and the clutch pedal return spring was replaced in 2023.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer currently shows 49k miles. Repairs to the tachometer and adjustments to the odometer were made in 2011.
The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Manifold bolt threads were repaired in 2020, and the water pump was replaced and a crack in the left valve cover was welded in 2021. Leaks are noted, and the results from vehicle inspections since 2020.
Additional identification numbers are included on the Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Work since 2021 has involved replacing the transmission mounts, shifter bushings, and clutch slave cylinder.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
