LOT 237
Comprehensively restored in Switzerland 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8-Litre Roadster Chassis no. 877772
Sold for €55,200
This handsome E-Type Series I 3.8 Roadster- surely the model which any knowledgeable would choose, with its free revving engine and smooth, enclosed headlight nose- comes with Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate confirming that it was manufactured in left-hand drive configuration and despatched in August 1962 to the USA, where its first owner was one R A DeLorenzo, of Lafayette, California. The car was delivered finished in Opalescent Dark Green with Suede Green interior trim and French Grey soft-top.
‘877772’ later returned to Europe where it was restored from the bare chassis upwards in the 2000s by English Cars, of Rümlang near Zurich, Switzerland (see bills on file). Modern drivers will appreciate the discreet five-speed Getrag gearbox which makes long distance touring effortless. Acquired by the current owner in 2006 and since repainted in black, this gorgeous roadster has seen little use since its total rebuild and is presented in believed excellent condition. Representing an exciting opportunity to acquire a fully restored example of the E-Type in its early and most desirable form, the car is offered with Swiss Carte Grise and a history file that includes a photographic record of the rebuild. Ideal for daily use this summer…

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
