Auction description:
1963 Jaguar Series I E-Type Roadster
LOT 190 To be auctioned on Friday
ESTIMATE: $120,000 - $140,000
CHASSIS NO: 877906
The example we are pleased to offer is a beautiful 3.8 liter Series I Roadster. It underwent a complete restoration to the highest degree by Jaguar Specialist David Ferguson of Northern California. Taken down to the bare metal, a complete mechanical restoration and rebuild was executed including an all new interior and brightwork. Fully documented, this is a matching numbers original XKE that, following its no-expense-spared restoration, was proven with a JCNA First Place win scoring a 99.92 overall.
The body was repainted in the original and very rare color, Coswalt blue, then color sanded and buffed. The car was then fitted with all new rubber seals, grommets and gaskets. All the trim and brightwork has been replaced or replated. The interior was treated to all new panels, dash and seats and is accordingly nearly flawless.
The 3.8 liter engine was rebuilt to factory specifications, matching and calibrated. It was fitted with new pistons, bearings, valves, guides, seals and timing chain. The head was completely rebuilt, as were the carburetors. To achieve a perfect ride, the suspension is all new and powder coated. The undercarriage was rebuilt with the gas tank restored, epoxy sealed and mated to the rebuilt fuel pump.
All electrical components, gauges, knobs and switches were either rebuilt or replaced including a new wiring harness. The chassis and some components were powder coated, as were the top bows and seat frames. As expected there was a full rebuild of the transmission and differential.
Overall, this is a near perfect car in a lovely color combination. In its current condition it is fully useable on the road and show field and it will undoubtedly prove to be a continued winner at future JCNA concours events around the country.
