Current bid $20,000 reserve not met, 3 bids, 9 days left in auction. Complete VIN on this car J63878470 , Current location Excelsior, Minnesota.

    Sellers description:
    1963 XKE JAGUAR E-TYPE ROADSTER
Very Solid Original Sheet Metal – California Car.

The car being offered is a Series I E-type roadster; the most sought after of the E-types. The car started its life in California (has CA VIN number), before its owner moved to Minnesota. It was owned by the same owner for 37 years. Used as a pleasure vehicle only, the owner averaged 700 miles a year over the 37 years he enjoyed the vehicle. This is all well documented. The car was never driven in the winter, and as a result of its easy life it is a very solid clean car.

The car has a maroon finish on the exterior; the trunk and front sub-frame are still all the original opalescent silver blue Jaguar paint from the factory. The car was painted maroon in 1978, and sometime in the past 30 years new carpeting, a new dash top, new seat covers and a new top were done. The seats are not leather, but a very high quality vinyl; it’s the correct pattern and looks great. The carpet nap is not correct per the original specs, but again the pattern looks correct and very nice, and is in great condition. The paint job done 30 years ago isn’t great, but for a 30 year paint job it looks good; it clearly shows that the sheet metal underneath it is solid otherwise any serious rust would have come through by now. It’s also very clear from the condition of the engine area and the trunk, where there is still original factory paint, that the car is very solid. The bonnet understide is sprayed with black undercoating; it appears to be very solid. The body exterior does have minor dings, etc., and one dent underneath the trunk area (nothing major - see photo). The interior and top are in great condition; except for a small spot in the driver’s seat where the seat belt has rubbed against the edge of the seat. The areas that are still original (door panels, dash face, center console, etc.), are all in very good condition, especially for a 45 year old car. In general, the work done in the interior looks great as if it were done more recently. The chrome is original; it’s faded and has some pitting but again it’s solid, correct, and all in place. The only thing missing on the entire car seems to be the original windshield washer bottle/pump and the original seat belts (newer belts were added at some time); everything else seems to be in place.

The car was recently mechanically serviced by “Special Interest Auto”, a shop with extensive experience in servicing and restoration of classic Jaguars. They flushed the gas tank, rebuilt the carburetors, rebuilt the brakes, confirmed the engine compression was good, and checked the basic electronics (lights, etc.) so that the car was drivable.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
