This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a non-running Series I roadster that was originally manufactured in December 1962 and dispatched to New York the following month. The car reportedly has been off the road for more than 30 years and was acquired by the seller from its long-term previous owner in June 2016. A 4.2-liter inline-six and a Tremec five-speed manual gearbox have since been installed, while the disassembled matching-numbers 3.8-liter engine is also included in the sale. The exterior has been coated in primer, and body repairs were completed under previous ownership, while further cosmetic and mechanical work are necessary to bring it to driving condition. This XKE project is now offered with a disassembled 3.8-liter engine, spare parts, receipts from some of the cosmetic work, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.

Originally finished in Opalescent Silver Blue, the body has been coated in primer, while red paint is present in the trunk, door jambs, and engine bay. Body repairs were reportedly performed in North Carolina following a collision with a deer in December 1985, and the brightwork was re-chromed during this time. Rust is present in the trunk, driver-side doorsill, and floors as pictured in the photo gallery below.

The black soft top is torn and missing its rear window.

The dash pad and carpeting have been removed, while a factory steering wheel and Motorola push-button radio are retained. A pair of black seats is included in the sale, and additional photos of the floors, instruments, and switchgear are provided in the gallery. Just under 42k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, although true mileage is unknown. The previous owner reportedly bought the car in November 1985 and drove it approximately 500 miles before the aforementioned collision with a deer. The 4.2-liter inline-six was reportedly sourced from a 1986 Jaguar XJ6 with 60k miles and is equipped with triple SU carburetors. The engine is said to have run when it was removed from the donor vehicle, although it has not been started since its installation under current ownership.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
