This 1963 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster finished in Signal Red over a black leather interior and powered by a numbers-matching 3.8-liter inline-six paired with a newer, fully synchronized four-speed manual gearbox. The car was reportedly sold new to a US service member in England and later relocated to San Jose, California, where it is said to have resided for multiple decades. The seller acquired the car from a co-worker in 1998 and performed a refurbishment in the early 2000s, which included a repaint in the factory color, engine rebuild, and installation of the newer transmission. Approximately 13k miles have been added since the work was completed. This XKE OTS is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, records dating back to 2000, refurbishment photos, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The paint and bodywork were performed by City Body Repairs in San Jose, California. A later-model Signal Red was chosen over the factory Carmen Red. The 15″ Dayton wire wheels were installed three years ago, and come wrapped in Dunlop SP radial tires, and a matching spare resides in the trunk. Braking is managed by four-wheel Dunlop discs.

The interior has been re-trimmed in black leather with a kit from G.W. Bartlett over matching carpet. Brushed-aluminum trim covers the dash and the center console, which houses a period Blaupunkt AM/FM radio.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel is mounted on a Superspokes quick-release hub, and frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. 13k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, which is said to have been reset during the refurbishment; actual mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six reportedly was rebuilt by All Precision Machine in Morgan Hill, California. New pistons and cylinder sleeves were sourced from Classic Jaguar, and a modern rear main seal was acquired from Terry’s Jaguar. The fully synchronized four-speed manual gearbox, sourced from a later-model E-type, was reconditioned by Coventry West in Lithonia, Georgia. A new Borg & Beck clutch, throw-out bearing, and slave cylinder were installed in 2017. Cooling is managed by an aluminum Ron Davis radiator, and the electrical system remains positive ground, with a rebuilt generator and a gear-reduction starter.

The serial number on the cylinder head—R9707-9—matches that on the engine block, the car’s ID tag, and the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, all of which are viewable in the gallery below.

Metal repair performed by the seller reportedly encompassed new center sections of the cabin floors, trunk floor, and a right-side outer sill. The exhaust system is stainless steel and additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists a dispatch date of January 14, 1963 along with the factory configuration and serial numbers.
