Sellers description:
Year: 1963
Make: Jaguar
Model: XKE Series I Roadster
VIN: 879032
Engine: 3.8-liter
Mileage: 28,790 miles
Color: Old English White/Red

A true survivor that is completely original (un-restored) with 28,780 miles! This is undoubtedly one of the rarest E-Types. It is as is from the factory as you will ever get. Never repainted, original interior and all original equipment including 3.8-liter engine, 4-speed transmission, rear end, rubber and glass just as it left Coventry. This Jaguar was original sold in Maine where it spent most of its life since new. It was purchased from the original elderly owner including all paper work. This XKE was stored in a climate controlled garage and was put on blocks during the winters and has been wonderfully preserved. The first trip was driven from Maine to California and back. There are photos of the car at various destinations along its inaugural trip included in the documentation. A classic car is only original once and you can very go back to the condition of this vehicle! And this beautiful driver Jaguar should always stay in this preserved condition. Its patina even with a few minor paint blemishes are all a true testimony to a wonderful well cared for E-type that you can never replace and is exceptional rare...

Corcoran Motor Sales Co. Inc. Wesley, Massachusetts
Martin Schorer, 22 Hardwick Road, Natick, Massachusetts
29,053 Miles (Original, warranted and fully documented)

This particular E-Type was ordered new in February of 1963 by Corcoran Motor Sales Co. Inc. of Wesley, Massachusetts, the Central Eastern Massachusetts regional authorized Jaguar Agency at the time. The car was ordered in the traditional colors of Old English White with contrasting and complementing Connolly Red Leather Interior with a black soft top. On April 16th, 1963, Martin Schorer of 22 Hardwick Road, Natick, Massachusetts purchased this Jaguar new.

Mr. Schorer and his wife, Janet treasured their new Jaguar greatly using it on only the most special occasions. Mr. Schorer joined and became only the 4th member of the New England Jaguar XK owner's association shortly after acquiring this vehicle. The car was enjoyed by Martin and Janet on one memorable long journey during a five-week, "Coast-to-Coast" tour covering some 9,350 miles.

Martin Schorer followed the original owner's handbook instructions on maintenance, service and most importantly the cosmetic care of this Jaguar religiously over the next 40 plus years. Each Fall, he would service the car and then place it in his garage on jack stands with the suspension unloaded and the wheels off the ground. He placed desiccant and moth-balls on the carpets, in the trunk and under the bonnet. For the engine, transmission and gearbox, he added marvel mystery oil treatment and in the fuel tank, he added 1/2 gallon of "dry gas" fuel stabilizer and in the radiator he added a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water soluble oil to further preserve his treasured Jaguar. At the end of each Spring, usually in late April, early May, Martin would "un-pickle" his Roadster and again perform full services and then strictly in accordance with the owner's manual, follow to the letter the prescribed cleaning and washing procedures.

The care, effort and attention, Martin Schorer lavished on this Jaguar Roadster can not be over emphasized. As a result of this care and the fact that the car was always kept in a climate controlled environment with no exposure to UV light while in storage, the car has been preserved to a level we have never encountered before. Make no mistake, this is no "hanger queen," On the contrary, this Jaguar operates, performs and functions as if it had been fully restored just yesterday!

In 2004, Martin Shorer retired and he and his wife Janet moved to the sea-side seasonal community of Wells, Maine. The following year, with just over 28,000 original miles on the clock, Martin made the difficult decision to sell this Jaguar entrusting care to her next and only her second custodian. Martin was ever so picky and fussy that finding a suitable guardian took another year. Both Martin and his wife Janet eventually agreed that conservatorship would be given to Rexford Ryan of San Diego, California. On June 30th, 2006 formal ownership was transferred to Ryan. At the time a formal odometer statement was signed stating, documenting and confirming the car's original mileage as being only 28,190.

Ryan, as had the Shorer family spared no expense or effort in the continued conservation and preservation of this Jaguar. As with the Shorer family, it was carefully stored, maintained and cared for as well as given sufficient exercise to ensure all was in proper working order at all times. Ryan covered roughly 150 miles a year in this Jaguar over the next seven years. Most of the mileage was added during bi-annual services and routine maintenance. He also showed the car at a variety of local events and gatherings including the Jaguar Club North America National meet at which he entered the car in formal judging. The car scored an impressive 97.25 points against similar E-Types that were fully restored, "show only" cars. A copy of the judging sheets accompanies this vehicle and attests to how well it has been maintained and preserved.

Today:
Earlier this year our friend and long-term client Rex Ryan passed away. His family entrusted us with several of the vehicles from his collection for follow-on sales. Upon arrival in our La Jolla showroom I spent a few minutes going over this E-type. Like most who first encounter the vehicle, it gives the impression of being an older restored and well cared example... It is only after a few minutes and a review of the massive file of records, photos and documents that you realize this is in fact a completely un-restored and totally original example. All of the paint is completely original as is the top and interior. After reviewing the original sales records and warranty documents form the Spring of 1963, I noted that the sales records recorded the original key numbers for the doors and ignition. The original coded key with this number remains to this day... a small detail for sure, but this was just the start... I was able to quickly verify engine, gearbox and body numbers as well. During my first test drive and initial inspections, when fitting the original tonneau cover, I noted that on the back side of it written in crayon was the number "5711." I did not realize the significance at the time but took a photo of this anyway... This number appears in a variety of other hidden areas on the car and various trim pieces... When preparing the inspection photos for viewing, the significance of this number became apparent as it is in fact the last four digits of the car's body number "R5711."

During my examination of the tools and jack kit, it was pointed out to me by a more knowledgeable Jaguar expert that besides being utterly and completely correct, the original tire gauge remained packaged in the original delivery cellophane wrapping, something he had never encountered before. Again and again, everywhere you look, examine and touch on this Jaguar you encounter similar details and signs of careful preservation and total originality.

Today, this E-Type has covered just 29,053 original, warranted and fully documented miles from new. One is easily fooled that this is a fully restored vehicle and not the "day one" original time-warp example that it actually is. Further examination of the highly personal collection of supporting letters and period photos, records and documents leaves a near haunting impression of a machine frozen in time five decades earlier.

I took all of this into careful consideration during my initial and follow-on test drives as well as thorough inspections. I found myself completely intoxicated by the car's character and persona. While appearing and performing as it was a freshly restored example, I was well aware this was in fact an elegant and classy lady who had just turned a very young 50 years old.

This is undoubtedly one of the rarest and most carefully preserved E-Types left in existence. It would be a very poor choice for the average casual Jaguar E-Type enthusiast. It is an example strictly destined for a custodian and caretaker who will both enjoy and continue to ensure that this vehicle remains both fully functional as well as carefully conserved and preserved always.

Please feel free to contact me for additional assistance with the potential purchase of this vehicle.

Warm regards,

Bill Noon

Buyer and/or owner should be advised, the California plates on this car are actually the Blue & Gold plates issued after late 1968 or early 69. The Black & Gold plates which started being issued in 1963 have the letters before the numbers (AAA 123), the Blue & Gold plates reversed the sequence (123 AAA). The plates on this car have been repainted to appear to be the earlier Black & Gold plates and I wouldn't advise leaving them on the car unless they are repainted to Blue & Gold.
