Car to be at auction 8/08
www.coys.co.uk/auctions/nurburgring-0808/139.php

Auction description:
1964 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Roadster
EU registered Chassis No. 880938

This handsome example was imported by its current owner from the sunny state of Florida in 1991. It subsequently underwent a ground-up restoration of the body in 1997. The original “matching numbers” 3.8 Litre engine has been extensively overhauled and sensibly uprated in 2005/2006 by Luxemburg specialists “Ateliers Nic Georges” at a cost of more than € 8,000. The work done included the fitment of new cylinder linings, pistons and valves, balanced camshafts and flywheel, new bearings, new water pump, a composite cylinder head gasket, Rob Beere Racing fast road specification camshafts, carburetors with racing needles, and a Kenlowe fan. The invoices for these works are available. Most sensibly the electrics of this handsome Roadster have been converted to negative earth. Furthermore the rear axle has been overhauled last winter, when also the rear brake pistons have been replaced.
Most attractively finished in dark blue metallic with a matching blue hood and contrasting magnolia leather interior, this stylish roadster also benefitted from a new hood which was fitted some 5 years ago and is still in very good condition.
No doubt a fantastic and fast example of one of the most evocative post-war sports cars.

Car returned to auction 10/10
www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r

Auction description:
Sale 18621 - Fine Watches and Collectors' Motor Cars, 11 Oct 2010
Royal Mirage, Dubai
Lot No: 72*
1964 Jaguar E-Type 3.8-Litre Series I Roadster
Chassis no. 880938
Engine no. RA5651-9

Estimate: $80,000 - 110,000, Dh 290,000 - 400,000

This handsome example was imported into Europe from the 'Sunshine State' of Florida by the immediately preceding owner in 1991, subsequently undergoing a 'ground upwards' body restoration in 1997. The original (matching numbers) 3.8-litre engine was extensively overhauled and sensibly up-rated in 2005/2006 by Luxemburg specialists, Ateliers Nic Georges, while more recently the rear axle has been rebuilt and the rear brake pistons replaced (see bills for these and subsequent works on file).
The current owner purchased the E-Type in 2008 and has spent in excess of £30,000 on a complete mechanical freshen up, since when it had been virtually unused. Most attractively finished in dark blue with contrasting magnolia leather interior, the car has also benefited from a new hood, which was fitted some five years ago and remains in very good condition. UK-registered and offered with current MoT, this beautiful example of one of the most iconic post-war sports cars has no known faults. Considered by many as the most desirable of the different E-Type series, Bonhams recommend close inspection of this very superior example.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
