For sale at auction March 7 2015

www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2015-03-07/cars/1964-jaguar-e-type-series-i- ...

1964 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster Competition

Registration BNE 438B
Chassis Number 881361
Engine Number RA6379-9
Odometer reading 1,000 miles
Estimate £95,000 - £115,000

Presented in opalescent silver-blue and one of just seven new Martin Robey flat-floor bodied, FIA compliant E-Types, this example has undergone £150,000+ refurbishment and race configuration in the last 10 years with great emphasis on attention to detail and quality. All parts have been restored or replaced and a substantial history file, including receipts from the UK's leading E-Type specialists including Southern classics for an astonishing £127,882.37, accompanies the motorcar as does a documented race history. Imported back to the UK in 1999, this Series I has had just two owners since with the present vendor taking ownership in 2002 and has treated it like the prize possession it has been for him.

Race-ready for various competition levels, this unique roadster, complete with FIA Papers, is also road legal and MoT tested until May 2015.The Halda Tripmaster for historic racing is present as is the Historical Technical Passport from the German DMSB which was renewed in 2013 and adds the barcode Decal , necessary now to match the car. It can race under E-Type Homologation 34 under Period E as well as E-Type Homologation 100 under period F as it conforms technically to the first but also has the modern safety kit for the second. Provenance as to its race pedigree and its participation in a number of events across Europe is as follows;-

• The Monte Carlo Rally Historique where it competed twice
• The Monza Coppa Historica in 2011 and 2012
• AVD Old timer Grand Prix 400km Marathon Race at the Nürburgring
• Twice at the HSCC Guards Trophy
• The E-Type Challenge in 2011, 2012 and 2013 finishing 4th, 2nd with 2nd class wins
• The Spa Summer Classics and the Snetterton Autosport three hours in 2010, 2011 and 2013

Also, below is a brief overview, but not the entirety, of its specification...

Under the bonnet is a Rob Beere complete race engine, rebuilt with up-rated cylinder head and additional oil-cooling for head, lightweight alternator and starter motor, racing specification pedal box and triple SU carburettors with ITG Custom air box and filters coupled to a racing transponder system (hard-wired) and Jaguar four-Speed, all synchromesh gearbox

The body is one of seven new Martin Robey flat-floor bodies with a fully integrated roll-cage and lightened bonnet with lightweight catch. Lexan headlight covers, which are race compliant, safety fuel and electric pull switches, Perspex side windows with unique open and close system and a road legal, but race-type recessed, alloy fuel filler cap with ultra bright LED race rear light compliment the race specification.

AVO adjustable suspension has been added front and rear, Mk. IX brakes including Dunlop race specification brake callipers, uprated rear differential with extra stiff torsion bars and MWS chrome wheels. Inside, it has floor-mounted standard seats with custom made frames with a completely rebuilt heating and cooling system including a plumbed-in fire extinguisher system and emergency fuel and electric cut-off switches, all finished off with a Moto-Lita steering wheel. A gooseneck co-driver LED light, co-driver large convex rear view mirror and four-point harnesses complete the necessary FIA specification.

To replicate this car today would cost in excess of £200,000, including buying a suitable car. We are informed that it drives exceptionally and gets positive attention where ever it goes. The panel fit is superb, the brightwork is beautiful and with substantial provenance, this car represents a very shrewd investment when compared to other Series I's and even more so, when compared to other race prepared cars.

Sellers description:
Jaguar 'E' Type 3.8 Litre Roadster, Open Two seater - Lightweight (1964)
DMSB HTC Passport FIA Class GT12
Left Hand Drive: UK Registration

Our newly acquired 3.8 roadster offers a race/fast road specification with the advantage of Historic Technical Papers issued in Germany. The motorcar was supplied new on the 1st of April 1964 to the USA & repatriated back to the UK in 1999. On the Jaguars' return # 881361 has had a meticulous & detailed restoration costing in excess of £130,000 to ensure that the 'E' Type would be ready for any event or "fast road" application.

The basis of the restoration was a brand new body-shell matched to a lightweight bonnet. A new windscreen and perspex side windows were fitted, as was an integrated roll cage. The factory hardtop is retained. The engine was rebuilt and uprated by renowned specialist Rob Beere and includes a lightweight alternator and starter motor plus additional oil cooling. A multi-bladed cooling fan, custom air boxes and filters for the triple SU carburettors and fitted with a period 4 speed, all synchromesh Jaguar gearbox, completes the powerful and reliable drivetrain. The chassis was treated to AVO adjustable suspension front and rear, FIA specification Jaguar Mark 9 brakes and an uprated rear differential and torsion bars. For road use, wider chrome MWS wire wheels with 205/70VR15 Avon tyres are fitted and as a nod to comfort and civility, the heating and cooling system was rebuilt with a period look radio with remote USB/SD Card reader installed. Many further modifications were added to ensure FIA eligibility, all available upon request. We have also been advised that if a conversion to right hand drive steering is required as this is "nonstructural" it can be easily completed.

As a result of the issuance of the cars' Historic Technical Passport FIA Class GT12 our Jaguar complies for various categories of racing, hill climbing and other forms of motorsport. Our well sorted E-Type we understand has date taken part in some of the world most important and highly regarded racing events:

Monte Carlo Rally Historique
Monza Coppa Historica
The Oldtimer Grand Prix Marathon Race
The HSCC Guards Trophy
The E Type Challenge
Spa Summer Classics
The Snetterton Autosport 3 hours Race

Presented in the period & much favoured colour of Opalescent Silver Blue Metallic, # 881361 has the added benefit of being accompanied by a large and highly documented historical chassis file, full specification sheets & invoices from Marque specialist restorers Southern Classics, amongst many others. Supplied with a current MOT & absolutely ready to go, this truly unique E-Type is eligible for many significant historic events, or would be equally at home as a (very!) fast road car.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
