The early Series 1 E-type had sleek styling, a 265 HP 3.8 liter 6 cyl. engine with polished cam covers and 3 SU carburators. It was considered by many an icon of the postwar British sports car and the most "pure" and sought after e-types.
This is an older refurbishment with a total of 70,000 miles. It's a great driver and though not a Concours restoration, it has won many car shows and has given us much pleasure since our purchase in 2004 from the owner who did the restoration.
There were 6,885 Series 1, 3.8 liter, left hand drive, open two seaters produced. This car, # 881447 was 439 from the end of 3.8 liter production which occured in August 1964. The cockpit has the uphostered console and dash of the later 4.2's.
It's a numbers matching car except for the cylinder head and transmission. Changes made to improve drivability were:
1. Converted from positive to negative ground (voltage regulator preserved).
2. Hitachi 35 Amp alternator substituted for generator.
3. Updated to later ('66 4.2) gearbox with synchromesh in 1st. gear.
4. High torque starter.
5. Spin-on oil filter conversion
Recent activities (2020-21):
1. 5 new Vredestein tires, shaved and balanced by Hendricks Wire Wheel, Greensboro, NC.
2. New brake fluid, coolant flush, all fluids changed, etc.
3. New battery
Additional Notes:
1. Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.
2. Wire wheels in very-good shape.
3. Vinyl top and interior, correct boot upholstery.
4. Period correct tools.
5. Small scuff on front nose, minimal nicks on paint.
Previous work:
1. Complete engine rebuild ('94), paint, new top, interior, etc. - 1987. (All receipts included & spares from rebuild).
2. New heater core.
3. Tachometer refurbished by Nisonger.
4. Quartz battery clock installed.
5. FM Radio/CD Player installed.
