This 1961 Jaguar XKE is flat-floor Series I coupe that was manufactured on December 27, 1961, and originally distributed through Jaguar Cars, New York. The previous owner reportedly purchased the car in 1970 and placed it into dry storage at the end of the decade. It is said to have remained in storage in the Southwest until the seller’s recent acquisition in New Mexico. The body is finished in red, and the brown interior has been partially disassembled. The numbers-matching 3.8L DOHC inline-six does not run, and equipment includes a four-speed manual gearbox, triple SU carburetors, 15” knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and Smiths gauges. This Series I Coupe project is now offered with spare and removed parts, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean New Mexico title.
Originally finished in Opalescent Bronze, the body now wears an older repaint in red. The selling dealer states the hood panel shows evidence of previous damage and repair, and rust and chipping paint are present on several panels. A selection of trim pieces is included in the sale.
Painted 15” knock-off wire wheels wear older GT Special tires. The car is equipped with four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes with inboard rear rotors. Broken spokes and corrosion are present on the wheels.
The interior has been partially disassembled and brown vinyl upholstery remains.
The three-spoke wood-rim steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer as well as a tachometer with an inset clock. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles, and the true mileage is unknown.
The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors and does not run. Compression test numbers are provided by the seller.
The cylinder head stamping R3307-9 matches the engine number listed on the underhood data tag as well as the engine number noted on the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.
The four-speed manual transmission is stamped EB 2449 JS, which also matches the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers and shows a manufacture date of December 27, 1961.
