Lot #126823

This 1962 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and it was refinished in red over tan leather upholstery under prior ownership. Additional equipment includes 15″ wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, headlight covers, lap belts, and a Nardi steering wheel. The car is said to have resided with two long-term owners in Pennsylvania from the late-1970s until it was acquired by the selling dealer in September 2023. This XKE is now offered by the selling dealer with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate, manufacturer’s literature, and a Pennsylvania title describing the car as a 1963 model.

The car left the factory in Opalescent Silver Grey, and the car was repainted its current shade of red in the early 2000s according to the selling dealer. Exterior details include covered headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, and chrome split bumpers with overriders in addition to three windshield wipers, a side-hinged hatch door, and dual polished central exhaust outlets.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with Coker Classic redline tires. A matching spare wheel with an older Michelin tire is stowed under the trunk floor. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors

The cabin houses low-back bucket seats that have been reupholstered in tan leather with a color-coordinated interior and a contrasting black padded dashboard. Appointments are composed of bright trim, blue lap belts, a toggle switch panel, and a passenger grab handle. The radio does not work, and there are blemishes and wear on the upholstery and trim pieces.

The 3.8-liter inline-six breathes through triple SU carburetors and output was rated at 265 horsepower when new. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale. Engine-block and cylinder-head stampings display engine number R5707-9

*******Sold for $80,000 on 11/8/23

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
