This 1963 Jaguar XKE was converted from a coupe to a roadster under previous ownership in the mid-1990s and has been refinished in red over black. The seller acquired the car in 1998 and has since fitted it with a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six and front subframe as well as overhauling the triple SU carburetors, differential, pedal box, suspension, and brakes. The car features a synchromesh four-speed manual transmission, a black soft top with a matching boot, 15″ Dayton wire wheels, fixed-back bucket seats, and a CD player. Fluid changes were performed in preparation for the sale. This Series I XKE is offered with a removed Blaupunkt radio, two car covers, shop manuals, service logs, refurbishment photos and videos, and a Washington title.

The car was converted from a coupe to a roadster in the 1990s—shortly before the seller’s acquisition in 1998—and the manufacturer of the conversion kit is said to have assisted in the work onsite. The vehicle has been refinished in a non-factory red with a black soft top and matching boot cover. Chrome 15″ Dayton knock-off wire wheels wear Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A matching spare is located in the trunk. The seller states that the front and radiator subframes have been replaced and the suspension bushings, ball joints, and tie-rod ends have been changed along with the brake rotors, bearings, hubs, and lines. The brake calipers were renewed with pistons sleeved in stainless steel, and remote brake bleeders have been added at the rear. Koni shocks and an adjustable torsion-bar reaction plate have been installed.

The cockpit features fixed-back bucket seats with black leather upholstery, matching dash and side trim, and rubber floor mats over black carpeting. A Pioneer CD player has replaced the stock radio ahead of the shifter, and aftermarket speakers and a power antenna have been added. Stainless steel heater pipes have been installed.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel and the steering column have been refurbished. Smiths instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inoperable inset clock, and auxiliary gauges that extend across the center of the dash above a row of toggle switches. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 2,400 miles. The seller has added approximately 15k miles over 23 years, and total chassis mileage is unknown.

The replacement 4.2-liter inline-six is said to have been overhauled along with its triple SU carburetors. The distributor has been fitted with a PerTronix electronic ignition module, and a spin-on oil-filter conversion has been performed. A trunk-mounted electric fuel pump is paired with a fuel tank that was cleaned and resin sealed. The seller states that all wiring harnesses except the taillight harness have been replaced, and LED taillights are installed. A battery-disconnect switch offers a provision for a battery tender.

A lightweight flywheel, satin-black ceramic-coated exhaust manifolds, and a stainless-steel exhaust system also have been installed. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with synchromesh gears. The seller notes that one front-floor section and the adjacent crossmember have been replaced, and an area of corrosion is pointed out below the battery box.

Shop manuals and wiring diagrams will accompany the car along with two covers, a jack, plus removed components including the radio, oil-filter canister components, center armrest, front hood chrome with clips, and torsion-bar reactor plate.

Additional photos taken at different stages of the refurbishment and video footage of the disassembly in VOB format (11.5 gigabytes) and as MP4 files (5.3 gigabytes) will be provided. The Washington title lists “5875-1963” under its Comments/Brands section, and it is in the names of the seller, his wife, and their family trust.
