Car to be at auction 12/08
www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php

Auction description:
1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Fixedhead Coupe
Lot 447
Registration Number: ABV 797A
Chassis Number: 888297
Originally exported to Arizona in the United States of America, the climate there was kind to this car and it remained in good working order. In 1990 however, it was imported back to the UK by the last owner. He spent some time renovating the car as well as converting to right hand drive for the British roads. It was used little after that until it was obtained my marque specialist, Trevor Groom. Widely acclaimed as an accomplished racing driver, he had the car completely dismantled with a view to being used as his own car. A phrase he often uses is, ‘If you are going to do something, do it right‘ and this example was certainly going to reflect that. After dismantling all mechanical components, it was re-painted its original colour of British Racing Green with a tan interior by expert trimmer Mick Turley. These are driver‘ cars and to that end, the engine was lightened and balanced then mated to a full synchromesh gearbox. It has chrome wire wheels with freshly chromed bumpers as well as all other brightwork. All suspension components are nickel plated; bushes are high specification poly units with new copper brake and fuel lines fed throughout the car. This is the purest shape for an E-Type Jaguar and has the added benefit of a high quality re-build and some unobtrusive tuning. An extremely good combination from someone who knows.

Estimate: £30000 - £40000

For sale at Pendine Historic Cars of Bicester. Seller's description below. The URL is

Distributed through Jaguar Cars New York, this ex-Arizona E Type, chassis 888297, was repatriated to the United Kingdom in 1990. Chosen for - as with so many of the dry state cars - its exceptional body, this 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe was completely restored. The engine was lightened and balanced, and mated to the much improved later all synchromesh gearbox. Sitting on outside laced chrome wire wheels, it is finished in British Racing Green with a tan interior by Mike Turley.

Within the past 3 years over £6,000 has been spent, the front suspension, steering rack and brakes have all been completely rebuilt, and Koni shock absorbers add to the driving experience. A really good road E Type, with body that has not been subjected to rust and bad repair, this is a Jaguar that will appeal to the enthusiast who appreciates a well sorted, nice driving E Type.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
