Ebay item 9/18/08

Current bid $26,000 reserve not met, 2 bids, 8 days left in auction. 103k miles.

This 1963 Series One XK-E has been owned by the same lady for the last 29 years. This is a solid, well running car, perfect for week-ends, tours, or going out to dinner. The original car color was white, the current owner had paint and upholstery done when she first acquired the car The seats and door sills are in leather.

Car has new factory exhaust system, from the headers back, new factory rear brake calipers, good glass, has always enjoyed inside storage. The only rust is 4 small spots less than 1/4" in size, that don't show well in photos. The car has 5 chrome wire wheels, with some very small pitting on the wheels. It also has the jack and knock off hammer.

The car has a fiberglass nose that was fitted prior to being purchased long ago. It was decided to leave it as it is, and acquire a steel nose, should it ever be needed. That fortunately never occurred, so the car comes with a spare steel nose, inner panels, and fender beading, as seen in the photos. Obviously the original was bent at some time, but when a new clutch was fitted a few years back, the engine alignment was correct. Oil pressure in photo is at idle, with the engine warm. Engine and chassis numbers match title and chassis plate. The car has the original Moss gearbox.

Car drives very well, steers and stops properly, no wobbles, shakes or overheating, so smoke. Car shifts well, keeping in mind that it is the Moss gearbox, neither fast nor silent! Car has always been maintained by an experienced British Car mechanic.

Seller has clear title. Mileage is believed correct as represented, but no warranty is given or implied.

Sold by the Mechanic Gallery of Villefranche sur Saone in September 2021. Abbreviated and amended seller's description below.

www.mechanicgallery.com/deja-vendu/1963-jaguar-type-s1-3-8-coupe-vo287-mechanicg ...

This superb Series 1 E Type Coupe, number 888639, is fitted with a non original 3.8l engine and a 4 speed Moss gearbox. It was dispatched from the Coventry factory to Jaguar Cars New York on 8th May 1963. The first owner from Woodside, California had the car from 1963 to 1979, it then passed to a lady owner from Washington who had it for 33 years from 1979 to 2012. It was then imported into France on that date, before being registered and acquired by the last owner.

From 2014 to 2017 it underwent total restoration at a cost of over 75,000 euros. The work included a bare metal strip of the paint, anti-corrosion treatment and re-paint in Carmen Red. The engine was rebuilt, the crankshaft balanced and carburettors overhauled. A new clutch was fitted and high flow oil pump installed. The Moss 4 speed gearbox was overhauled and a new wiring harness installed. A new alternator was fitted and the starter motor reconditioned. The brakes were uprated with new 4 pot calipers. The interior was retrimmed in black leather and a new carpet fitted.

Although not the original colour, the Carmen Red finish perfectly suits the E Type and echoes the chrome brightwork. The interior has been professionally re-trimmed and creates a luxurious atmosphere in black based on leather, alluminium and wood. The dynamic test confirms the health of the car, which has completed only 3,000 kms since restoration. The car is supplied with French registration documents, Jaguar heritage certificate, independent expert report dated November 2017, full restoration record with over 200 photographs and all restoration and maintenance invoices since 2012.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
